How can I use a SATA HDD in a 7NF-RZ motherboard? What cables/adapters are required?

Hey there. To install SATA devices on any motherboard follow these steps:
1- Make sure your Motherboard supports SATA, a 7NF-RZ works fine.

2- Install the HDD on your case, usually you have to screw it in or if you have a newer case you can lock it in place with a latch.(The SATA slots on a case are usually above the optical drive slots).

3-If you have another HDD already installed, and you don't want the new HDD to have system files, make sure it's designation is set to Slave. To do this, remove the jumper on the HDD pins(a white plastic connector) with tweezers, and, according to your HDD specifications, move it up or down to Slave designation.

4-Use a SATA cable from your Power Supply and connect it to the HDD, then, use a SATA adaptor cable which should have come with your HDD and connect it to the HDD, then to your Motherboard SATA adaptor(these vary from motherboard to another, so use your Manual to specify where it is).

5-Boot up your computer, and enter BIOS. Usually press either F2,F5,F12 or Esc. After that go to Auto-Detect drivers. When you're done, Save & Exit.

You should have successfully installed your new HDD!

Sata driver for Samsung harddisk

You need driver SATA controller that is used on your motherboard. You need to find CD or download from internet, drivers for your SATA controller that is used by your motherboard. Put this *.inf files on bootable Floppy diskette. In Windows XP setup press F6, when it askes you. If you found correct driver you will see your HDD in setup.

My Gigabyte GA-MA785gm-US2H does not recognize my Samsung SATA hard drive. I can see that it exists in the Advanced Bios Features, in the Hard Disk Boot Priority, and nowhere else. I can not load Windoews...

If you are trying to install Windows XP then this is to be expected. WIndows XP doesnt have native support for SATA. You will need to identify the SATA driver you need, then put that driver on a floppy disk. DUring the install of XP it will ask if you have any drivers you want to install. CHoose yes and put the floppy disk with the drivers on it in the disk drive.

If you dont have a floppy drive then you will need to create an install disk with the SATA drivers on it.

If your hdd is sata and you have an old mobo , windows xp (onlycvista will) will not recognize it. Integrate sata in xp (use nliteand goolgle how to) or use the flloopy disk to run sata driver

Gigabyte K8vm800M Motherboard Does Not Recognise Seagate SATA HDD

I HAVE THE SAME PROBLEM IN THE PAST. I REPLACE THE IDE HDD WITH SATA AND AFTER I BOOT IT SAYS NO HARDDISK. IT IS BECAUSE WINDOWS XP HAS NO BUILT IN SATA DRIVER.

WHAT YOU SHOULD DO IS CHANGE YOUR HARDDISK TO IDE OR INTEGRATE A SATA DRIVER INTO YOUR XP (USE NLITE) OR USE THE FLOPPY DRIVE TO RUN SATA DRIVER ITS INCLUDED IN THE MOBO WHEN BUYING.

I cant install vista OS on this MBD , by sata HDD

You must enter setup at boot and select the CD/DVD as first boot. Then ensure that the BIOS settings have SATA enabled. When CD/DVD is first boot watch the screen for 'press any key to boot from cd' message is displayed. The boot screen will say how to enter setup. Typical buttons are F2, Delete, F1, F10 -you did not say which manufacturer. OEM trumps mobo maker with BIOS setup.

My motherboard can;t detect my harddisk.....

Hi modjoguy, the bios must see your SATA hard disk before windows can see your SATA hard disk drive. To check this please press the delete key every two seconds as soon as you power on the system. (Note 1: Some motherboards that do not show the SATA II drive while in the bios may need its jumper set to SATA I in order for the bios to see the SATA drive). (See the drives large white sticker on the hard disk drive for SATA I location of jumper).
(Note 2: Gigabyte GA-K8VM800M rev 2.x & Gigabyte GA-K8VM800M-RH motherboards use the same manual). The Gigabyte GA-K8VM800M rev 1.x manual is slightly different, thus page numbers differ from the other two above.
Here is the link for all three: http://www.giga-byte.com/Search/Search_List.aspx?Keyword=K8VM800M&SearchType=Spec
The bios main menu will open. Open your manual (rev2.0 & RH) to page 38 & read under the listing, "IDE Channel 2/3 Master". The idea is your SATA drives should be listed at 2/3.
Once they are seen you need to open Advanced BIOS Features page 40. You can load the advanced bios features by pressing "Ctrl+F1" keys. You must list the SATA drive you want as the primary hard disk drive (Usually its the model number of the drive), that will have windows installed on it.

Good luck modjoguy!
Run into a snag just post it here.

SATA HDD

you need to install the drivers for it when loading windows,,
you are on the right track by pressing F6 however you need to have the FLOPPY DISK that came with your mainboard in the floppy drive..

If you dont have the diskette then ,, the drivers are located on the mainboard cd,, its in the sata / raid folder, there should be a text document in there with the insttructions on creating a floppy with the driver files you will need.
