SOURCE: raising the handlebars

If your bike is older it might have a quill stem.To raise this you have to undo the allen key headed bolt situated where the bar & stem attach to the bike.It is often obscured by a plastic plug to prevent water rusting the bolt head.If this doesn't go high enough an adjustable quill stem must be fitted.
If you have the modern design of stem(A-head)you will have to replace the stem with an adjustable type which can be set upto 60 degrees.

Raising handlebars on schwinn ditch 2.0 dn

The above answer is incorrect. The Ditch has what is called a "threadless" fork/stem setup. One cannot raise the stem at all unless there are spacers above it. Raising the stem is also not the only option. A stem with a shorter "reach" may be sufficient. Google "threadless stem riser" to see options for raising the stem. Following is a video with the procedure.

Adjust handlebar height on Schwinn Varsity

I'm answering 7 years later. I have a Schwinn Varsity 2500 Bike made probably in 2015. The Schwinn Varsity Bike is not set up the same way as a traditional bike. I loosened the center compression bolt and the two side stem clamp bolts and it came loose where I can adjust it up or down but, there's nothing to tighten the slack up below. I did some research. My original post here was to add or remove a spacer. I think you can remove a spacer to lower but, I don't think the stem is long enough to add another one. I've seen they sell an extension that you can add-on to make the handle bars higher.

My bike's suddenly not moving my bike's suddenly not moving backward..... its a Schwinn Suburban Sport 26" for women... bought it an hour ..

It's not supposed to move backward. Walk it forward and rotate the pedal FORWARD to get the chain and all aligned onto a gear. Then evaluate what is wrong.

Need replacement parts for a women's 26" Cimarron. Specifically the handlebar stem.

You could order one online somewhere but I recommend you take the bike to a Bicycle Shop.

1. This would be a good time to evaluate the bike fit as the stem plays a large part in it, then settle on a fixed-geometry stem instead of the dorky adjustable one.

2. They'll put it on for you and it will fit right the first time.

All parts on almost any bike are made by a handleful of companies (not usually the brand of the bike) and are commonly available at any bike shop, any online bike parts source, eBay, etc.
