The ignition gap is to far from the burner it is not sensing the flame.

Hello Everett,

The problem beleive it or not is that the bake ignitor is weak ,and it is not drawing the proper amprage to open the gas valve. If you have a amp meter access the wires to the bake ignitor(usually behind the storage drawer) and check for 3.3-3.6 amps when set to bake ignitor by clamping the meter around ONE wire wire of ignitor make sure only one wire, either one and not both.
if amp draw less than that replace bake ignitor. If you dont have amp meter take my word for it since in my 30 years appliance repair career i have when the ignitor comes on, that it's weak, to be the problem 100% of the time

Whirlpool range lights sometimes but not everythime. also, it ignites and then quits before we are done baking something. how do i repair this? Thanks, Curtis curtis.jcm@gmail.com

Your oven ignitor is either out of adjustment or going bad.
Turn off the gas.
Open the oven and remove the lower oven cavity pan to access the ignitor.
Set the oven to BAKE and watch the ignitor.
If the spark is irregular, turn the oven control off and adjust the spark electrode closer to the frame.
Turn the oven back on and observe the spark.
Repeat this until you get the best consistent spark.
If it stays irregular, replace the spark ignitor.
Copy and paste the link below for a visual of the ignitor.

KGST307 Gas Kitchen Range: gas range will not heat up when using Bake setting...

Find the bake ignitor (you may need to remove bottom drawer or oven cavity floor to get to the ignitor). Turn on the bake. If the bake ignitor comes on (starts glowing after a few seconds) - check the amperage on the bake ignitor wires when it's on. If the ignitor is a round style - amperage should be 2.5-3A, if the ignitor is rectangular - 3 - 3.6A. If less than 2.5A or 3A respectively - replace ignitor. If the ignitor does not come on - check the voltage on the ignitor, should be the line voltage 110-120v AC. If there is a line voltage on the ignitor and it's not coming on - replace.
Ignitor part numbers for round style ones: 4342528, WB2X9154, SGR403, 5304401265;
rectangular styles: 12400035, WB13K21, WB2X9998, SGR412, NR020, 5303935066, 814269, 9753108.
Ignitors of the same shape (i.e. rectangular) are interchangeable, if you can splice the wires.

Good luck!
