Re: Won't wash

Fill valve could be bad. that or a timer.
i am guessing that gerty is your name, and 1955 was your birth year. if true, that suggests you are not going to get a voltage tester and go after testing the solenoid valve for current. i am from 1951, and i would not do it either. bad back and knees, and would rather have a service tech do it.
you also could have a door switch that is bad, but not likely as the pre wash drain out cycle does appear to start.
good luck

Why does drain motor start when pushing the start button on the door before the door is closed?

It's almost certainly the float switch in the bottom of the machine. In the bottom is a polystyrene 'float' that is either active due to water in the bottom or is faulty. Tip your machine to the side and remove water and try again, bridge or replace switch is also an option

Machine starts fills Ok but when it clicks on to start the wash pump, nothing happens, I can hear a faint hum. When cancelling wash and starting new wash it pumps out ok too. After rinse cycle it indicates...

sounds like your main circulation pump is not working, if it is humming when it is supposed to start, sounds like it is getiing power, so probably not the control circuits, can you measure voltage to pump?
if you are getting 120 there, probably pump motor is dead

Kenmore Elite 665.17053400. Powers up ok, fills up with water ok, but wash cycle won't start. I can hear the motor trying to turn but sounds like its seized up. If I cancel the wash, the machine drains...

This dishwasher has a very sophisticated wash system. In order to improve the wash efficiency it uses a chopper and a soil sensor. It is very likely the chopper assembly is clogged which is blocking the water from circulation and straining the wash motor.

See this diagram. Item 6 is the chopper. Worst case is the pump motor needs replacement. This is item 10.

Good luck

Dishwasher is not washing the dishes. Motor sound like it comes on, Water is drained aout and put in but it appears no rinsing or washing goes on. Don"t hear the arms rotating either. It goes thru the...

Welcome to FixYa.

Based on your description and provided the dishwasher is indeed 1) an Asko D1776 and 2) filling with water, draining, heating, but not circulating, It sounds like a busted wash impeller within the main motor/circulation pump, as you mentioned. What you may not know, is the impeller itself is not serviceable, the entire motor/pump must be replaced unfortunately.

Before declaring it is indeed a motor/impeller issue, you said you hear a quiet sound of a motor starting once the unit has completed filling with water right ? Be sure the unit is actually filling with water, this image below indicates the normal water level to look for....

The pump will be super quiet if the wash impeller is broke as I suspect it may be...almost like a fountain, since the Asko are very quiet under normal conditions. You will have to either get right down with your ear to the bottom or run it with the door open by activating the door switch with a screw-driver and look for visual/audible clues. (try placing both spray arms at 12 o'clock position and placing a cup upright in the top rack. If the arms move and the cup fills, you've got circulation...if neither, you don't)

If so that is a tell tale of no wash action yet the motor runs, hence broken impeller. If you don't hear anything it may be a wire come off the main motor/circulation pump or severed somewhere between the motor and control, maybe where the door pivots during opening...but not likely.

This unfortunately is common with Asko built dishwasher`s and it is a case of being a victim of their own design.

What happens typically is the ball-bearings from the upper rack holders ( which are plastic, hence fatigues due to heat and fall apart ) come out making their way into the sump, hence breaking the wash impeller from the motor.

Let me know what you find and I'll try and help you move forward from there. If you need direction to remove the circulation motor and pump I can do that, but it is a pretty involved repair and requires pulling the unit from the cabinet. Check those other possibilities first and tell me what you find.

I'll watch for your reply.

Dishwasher will not start. Lights flashing on Eco and Fast & Dry. Tried reset button which clears the flashing lights. It lets you programme to the one you want but when you press the start button...

Possible that the motor drive electronics is defective. You will need to flow chart this test from the motor to the drive. Also if the water level sensor/inlet valve also is defective it could create these issues. You will need to probe within to check for cut wires by rodents, If so rejoin and proceed. Good Luck

Won't start

It sounds like you have a food blockage or some blockage between where the water fills up and where it goes into the pump you need to take out the water wand (the rotating thing with water coming out) only the bottom one. You need to unscrew the water wand and make sure nothing is blocking in there.

If not then check your filter which should be next to the water wand remove it and then clean it and make sure nothing in in there to block water getting through.

If you have any questions please dont hesitate to ask
