This flapper helps clean the high-voltage grid wire when the plates are removed/inserted. Flapper isn't needed to operate the machine. But these units are very unreliable, difficult to imposible to repair, and there are no parts nor repair service available. They don't usually run very long.

Brush wheel not spinning

it can be belt or clutch failed. put the vac on its side and on the bottom there will be either two push clips or 2 screws remove them or push them and pull the bottom off. then when this is off you will see were the belt is for the spinning brush. if the belt is still on then the clutch has gone in the motor if the belt has gone take out the broken part and get a new belt, fitting new belt you need to remove the spinning brush it is either clipped in or slotted in , clipped is push the clips out to the side and lift the brush out, slotted it will just pull out. clean out the brush before putting back in also check the brushes bearing to make sure it moves easy as a failed bearing do to carpet string etc can burn the belt, any belt that has been burnt in this way should be removed and changed as it will damage the hover if still used after this part has been cleaned replace all parts and then turn on dont and it pluged in mains while you are doing this and dont use until it has all been fitted back..

The string inside my ionic breeeze quadra is broken. Is it possible to fix it

Not so fast with the screwing part. Go to a music store, buy the G string wire(008)gauge- at least 41 inches long- for a guitar.
If you have a digital camera make a video/pics history of your dis-assembly steps.
Remove the ozone eliminator-by pulling it off the tower.
Start with the base 4 screws, followed by the 2 collar screws at the base.
NOTICE that there is a space between the two halves at the bottom. I paid NO attention to this space-boy did I ever try to snugly close that one before I looked at another one to see that this separation is there for a reason.
Next: remove the "TINY"12 screws - 6 on the front/back side of the units ribs-look for these.
Take pics of each step. You will be happy you did this.
Store all of these diff. screws in separate jars.
Open the unit now like a wallet. Notice that the sloped top control button/light module can now be removed. See those 2 black square plastic covers-they hide a spring and an upside down W shaped wire holder. The broken wire can now be removed. If you are lucky, you may be able to to twist your new wire-after pushing it through the cleaning bead -with the one going down to the bottom module. Mine was too brittle and broke apart as soon as I touched it.
Remember: The 2 wires you see are just one 41 inch long 008 gauge guitar string.
They thread through a signal contact bracket at the bottom of the unit that is activated by the breaking of the wire to turn the unit OFF. Getting to this bracket is somewhat difficult and requires patience. Take a lot of pics to be able to reassemble the S 1637. I pulled the 41 inch long string under this signal bracket, evened off the ends, moved the top module down 2 inches and twisted the ends around the W shaped bracket that compresses the spring.
Honestly, I had to adjust the spring two times because I left off the cleaning bead. Now just reverse the steps and you got your unit working. The new string seems to push a lot more air.
Before you replace all of the screws, fold the unit together, insert the blades , put 2 sets of veggy rubber bands around the top and bottom and plug in/turn it on. Mine works now better than new. Did I mention that I had to do 2. The second was done in 2 hours.
Good luck.

After cleaning unit, cannot get "perform cleaning"

As long as something works, it isn't the fuse. If the machine is totally dead, then it's the fuse.
The plate and other components must be clean and dry. The plate must be totally free of debris, oil, and defects. (Did you clean it with ammonia/water 50/50 ONLY? Did you thoroughly air dry it? Is it perfectly whole, with no burned spots, loose portions, broken wire strands, cracks, lint?) If the plate passes inspection, and if you know they're reinserted correctly into the little "tracks" at the top and bottom you can reset the "perform cleaning" message. Try pushing the little black "reset" button that is located on the right side of the machine between the other manual controls. Then turn the machine off, using your remote or the o/- switch at the back of the machine. After a minute or two, turn the machine back on and see if that solved the problem.
If not, then the problem is probably with the computerized controls, which can only be serviced by Vollara (the new name for EcoQuest). Call them at 1-800-989-2299, ask for repairs, and give #16618 as your dealer referral number (unless you purchased the machine from an authorized dealer with whom you are still in contact.)
Hope this helps.

I have an Ecoquest Air Purifier....I have had it for about three years....it has always run beautifully, although it has not had much use.... today i put it on Sanitize and it simply isn't doing it....It...

Possibly the 4" white plate with the screen center is not inserted correctly, or it may need to be cleaned or replaced. Open the back of the machine and remove the plate. Clean it with a solution of equal parts ammonia/warm water. Scrub gently with a toothbrush or soft veggie brush, rinse well, blow-dry or air-dry. DO NOT use any kind of drying cloth or paper, and avoid touching the screen portion with fingers.
When the plate is dry, inspect it for any burned sections, broken wires, cracks, or other imperfections. If anything appears broken, the plate must be replaced. (Call Vollara, the new name for EcoQuest at 1-800-989-2299 to order. Use #16618 if you need a referral number.)
When you reinsert the plate, make sure the plate is inserted with both the top and bottom of the plate in the "tracks." Also make sure that the two metal contact fingers are pressing firmly on the screen portion of the plate. Look carefully to see if you can detect any loose wires, connections, or corroded components that may be shorting out or broken.
When you power on the machine, if the contact points are receiving power and if the plate is clean and unbroken, you should be able to smell the purifier both on "sanitize" and with the "purifier on" settings. Remember, the air passes in a V from the front of the machine, so if you're standing close, front and center, you may not smell the purifier. High humidity also masks the ozone smell. Also, if the UV/cell is on, you're still getting powerful purification.
Hope this helps.

I cleaned my io breeze quadra plates with rubbing alcohol reinserted and turned it on, it made some crackling noises and started emmiting a burning smell like a hot transformer pulled insert plates found...

You will need to take unit apart to check both the and bottom. Start either at top or bottom go over the circuit path of hi voltage grid wire check for more burn marks. Insure hi voltage insulated wire coming from transformer is not broken. This will be located at bottom of unit you will have to take top pc board off and control transformer to get to hi voltage transformer, then when that is removed you will see the hi voltage connector I was talking about. That wire is soldered on and is a very delicate connection. Make sure wiring soldered. Hi voltage transformer should be ok if you did not leave unit on for a long time while you had your loose connection in the grid wire.

Quadra - only red light goes on.

In addition to cleaning the plates on the cartridge, also turn the unit upside down then right side up a few times. There are 2 small wires inside the housing, and each has a ceramic ball on it that cleans the wire when the unit is inverted. Also, look through the vents to make sure the wires are not broken. If they are intact, they run in a straight line, almost the entire length of the unit.

If this does not help or the wire is broken, contact The Sharper Image. I believe this unit has a 5 year warranty. When mine failed, they exchanged it for free, even without a receipt.

Good luck!
