Dell latitude e6400 hard drive failures - is this a trend? I've had 2 out of 3 hard drives in 3 e6400 laptops purchased at the same time about 6 months ago.

Have you tested the hdd? i believed dell system has quick test for ram and hdd. try this one, turn off system, press and hold on the Fn key then press once the power button while holding the Fn key. a quick test will appear to check the integrity of the hdd. if the hdd failure after the dell logo then like msgs such as no device found just try to reseat the hdd. this will not void your warranty since the hdd is a customer replaceable unit according to dell terms.

My daughter has one of these E6400 series from the collge she attends. She has had this unit about a year and has replaced the HDD >>>4<<< times, What is the fix besides dynamite? The HDD test and RAM test showed no problems but the drive failed again just two weeks ago. They last about 2 months and die. Is there a fix for this????

Yes it is a trend, my company purchased over 1000 of these horrible units and continuously we have to replace the failed drives. All seagates. From the D series with their faulty video cards they didnt admit but finally did and extended the warranties (unpublished) to another year, to the E series and their cheap screens and harddrives. We will never buy Dell again. We are talking about millions lost because some empty head at Dell didnt QA properly.

You can have them alter the bios so that it won't show hard drive errors when you do the diagnostic test. Then you just wait for the drive to fail with error code 0146. Doh!

I have a dell latitude E6400 that will not reboot. Can I buy a new hard drive for it....will that work..............

you dont need to buy new hard drive until you confirmed that your hard drive has no more, for the purpose you need check in CMOS setup, if it is detected by computer then there is a chance to re-use the hard disk, you just need to re-install windows, during installation format the hard disk after re-partition.
if this method fails then you need to buy new one, good luck
do rate the solution if got help
