Question about HP Computers & Internet

2 Answers

I get 1 long 2 short beeps when I start up, I know it is the video card, if I keep on trying I eventually get the screen working, and the laptop wrks ok but if you have to re start then it can take up to twenty minutes to get it running again. Is there any thing that can be done, apart from replacing the motherboard.

The video card on the laptop most likely uses part of the RAM memory module. Try reseating the RAM modules to see if this fixes the problem. If it doesn't then the RAM maybe partly faulty, remove the RAM modules and take it to your friendly computer shop and get them to test your RAM.

Hi,

I had the same problem with my HP. After a long struggle had to eventually replace the video card/chip. Luckily mine was still under warranty.

Cheers.

Any help for beeping acer laptop when opening..thanks

g'day!

i would like to know how many and the kinds of beeps? there are what they call beep codes which indicates what kind of problem the your laptop is experiencing: here are the common ones:

0 beep = no power, loose card, short
1 short beep = normal,POST (Power On Self Test), your computer is ok
2 short beeps = POST error, review screen for error code.
continuous beeps = no power, loose card, short
repeating short beeps = no power, loose card, short
1 long, 1 short beeps = motherboard issue
1 long, 2 short beeps = video issue
1 long, 3 short beeps = video display circuitry
three long beeps = keyboard/keyboard card error
one beep, blank, incorrect display = video display circuitry

aside from the 1 short beeps, you need to take your laptop to a technician to have it looked at.

cheers mate!

Laptop Beeps on start up 1 long and two short beeps

You've checked the memory board/card, but have you tried using another memory card? The 1 long followed by 2 short beeps indicates that there's a problem with the memory card. Try to remove the memory card, then wipe the gold traces with a dry cloth and put it back in.

If you try replacing the memory card but you get the same problem, then proceed with the video card.

Hi my laptop will light but, three beeps, one long and two shorts

This error code is saying that either the RAM or video card has stopped working. Before replacing anything try reseating the components. If that does not work then start with a replacement video card. Video is more likely to fail than RAM. Good luck.

Problem with ibm thinkpad r40

The IBM beep code error 1 long 2 short beeps means there is a video card fault. Reseat your RAM because the video card uses some of the RAM. If it doesn't work then the video chip on the motherboard is faulty, the only way to fix is to replace the motherboard - this may not be a cost effective solution.
Connecting an external monitor to the laptop won't work because the video card also sends data to the video port.

Beep code

The sequence of one long beep and two short beep when starting computer usually means problem in your display adapter. Make sure your VGA connector is connected properly to VGA out port.
If you are using VGA card (non on-board), you might want to make sure that the card is inserted properly to motherboard.
The beep indicates that system can not initialize display.

Video card

Working and Working properly are 2 different things.

Unplug your pc. Let it set for 1 minute.
Plug in your pc.
Press the power button.

Does your monitor do anything?
No? Then it doesnt work
Yes? Then it works

If you get any video such as your BIOS or WIndows loading then the video card is fine.

Also, if you boot and you hear noises like:
Long Beep short Beep short Beep short Beep
(Long short short short)
Then your pc is not detecting the video card.
