1) STK392-110 cheap IC's won't hold up...they are seconds...
Use first quality Hitachi up-grade STK394-160E Part # CZ 01341
for durability.....At times, there are damaged resistors near IC's.

2)Difficulty varies with experience and ability and yes, they are
soldered in....good technique essential.....

Give it a look...Let me know...............T.

When I turn on my big screen, I see the input channel (Input 1) in 2 lines: one line with red letters and one with green letters. I supposed my blue light is out, but it might be something else. How much...

This sounds like a convergence problem.

In the customer menu with the Mitsubishi remote select convergence and then advanced. You should see a grid of lines yellow in color.

If red or blue lines appear and are skewed and out of place you have found your problem.

I have step by step start to finish instructions for this type of repair in MOST OF THESE MODELS.

Let me know if it looks anything at all like the attached photos.

Convergence on hitachi tv

Yes, this model uses two convergence chips--either STK-392-110 OR STK-392-150--both are the same part but the 150 chip lasts longer.

Some history for you:

The two chips are black in color and 2 1/2 inches wide and 1 1/2 inches tall with 18 pins each. They are as you look from the back of the set on the far right side--usually on a large metal heat sink2.gif with fins and some versions have them on two smaller heat sinks2.gif side by side----they will have the full STK number printed on them in white.

When they are installed a white grease to transfer heat quickly is applied to the metal back of each chip----after some years the grease dries out and one of the chips fails.

Both chips and any of the 12 or so protect resistors around them need to be CHECKED and or replaced and the set adjusted with the Hitachi2.gif remote--pretty easy repair.

If you can do this repair you can buy the parts on Ebay for less than 14 dollars plus shipping--

If you cannot do the repair--shop around your area as most shops charge 300 or more for this kind of repair--make sure whoever you get to do it BOTH chips are replaced or you will have the same trouble again in a few months--some clowns will just change one chip........

If they say "It has to go to the shop" keep looking as any good tech can do this repair right in your home in about 1 hour---I know as I have done hundreds of these repairs for people here.

If you have questions or need directions or advice let me know----

I am here to help people--if this information helps you rate this solution--I do this here for free.

Hitachi convergence seems to be bad, but all resistors check in spec's can you check ic's the cross hach lines will move in all directions but some are bent

I know this set very well, have fixed hundreds of Hitachi sets with convergence problems--

first--did you just go into the customer menu?

There are two ways to get into the tech convergence mode on most of these sets---if the set has "MAGIC FOCUS" PRESS the button the front panel---while magic focus is running press magic focus again --if STOP is displayed on the screen press either RECALL OR STATUS BUTTON ON THE REMOTE--set will go to the tech convergence mode--take a good look there ---if red or blue is skewed most likely one or both of the 2 STK-392-110 CHIPS THIS SET USES IS BAD--NO WAY TO TEST THEM--IF RESISTORS ARE ALL GOOD--you have to replace BOTH chips to see if one is your problem.

You can also get into the tech convergence mode by removing the front speaker grill and inspection plate behind it----there is a tiny micro switch on the front of the board (little blue button) with something not metal--touch it with the set on and you will be in the convergence mode.

I presume you know how to navigate with the remote in this mode 2,4,6.8 to move--ant to select blue and 0 to select red---enter button will stop blinking cursor and you use the ARROW CURSORS to adjust---DO NOT TOUCH ANY OTHER BUTTONS---

What you are looking for is will the "bent" lines adjust.

If the answer is no--change the two chips and see what you have--The STK-392-110 chips can also be replaced with STK-392-150 chips---they are a longer life version of the original chip.

If you need help doing the repair ask me before you begin.

You need to replace the convergence chips and convergence resistors. Check the site www.TvRepairKits.com . They have put together convergence repair kits for most models.

The kits include a photo instruction guide, original OEM Sanyo STK chips, convergence resistors, pico fuses, thermal paste, etc. Everything you will need to do the repair yourself.

Here is a quick test....

Using your original remote go-to the tv settings then goto the convergence section.

Try to adjust the red and then the blue convergence.

You should be able to move them up, down, left, and right.

If you can't move them in all directions your convergence chips are bad and should be replaced. This is a common problem.

You will need to replace the convergence chips and possibly some convergence resistors and pico fuses. Its a fairly easy DIY job or you can call in a pro. If you want to do the repair yourself check the site www.TvRepairKits.com. Their kits include a photo instruction guide, original OEM Sanyo STK chips, convergence resistors, pico fuses, thermal paste, email/phone support, etc.

Do not adjust any knobs as instucted in the previous thread if you TV have a convergence problem. Doing so will only make things worse. The blog does however show you how to fix other common problems with these sets.

Yellow vertical bar on right edge of screen

Your set is starting to get a convergence problem and the only way to repair it is by changing the convergence IC's,(3)one for each color, the blue migh be showing more now but soon all 3 colors will be out of alignment and you will not be able to correct it with the custumer controls,is great that it has worked for so long without this problem,if you are familiar with tv service you have a place to check but if you are not too familiar be safe and call for help from a pro-servicer.Let Us know how it goes.
