If you have tested your power supply and it is good then the motherboard should respond with no more than a procesor and a fan installed. check the fan to insure its good. The motherboard should beep indicating no memory is installed. If it doe not and you get no response than you need to check ebay for a replacement motherboard.

One additional thing to check. The power connection on the motherboard. It is very common for this to come loose. It may look good from the bottom of the board, however it is a double sided board and the connection on the top (connecter side) is the most important. That is where the connection to the circuit is.

http://www.laptoprepair101.com/laptop/2008/01/07/service-manuals-for-sony-vaio-laptops-notebooks/

In the above link where it states in bold letters -
Service manuals for Sony VAIO laptops and notebooks,

,left-click on - Get it here - to the right of VGN-AR.

This Service Manual is in PDF file format. The computer you are using now has Adobe Reader on it, which uses PDF files.

After you click on the file name, (VGN-AR), it may take up to 30 seconds, before the first page comes up.

Not your laptop, but perhaps this will give more guidance, in removing and replacing the Keyboard,

2) http://www.insidemylaptop.com/disassemble-asus-n53s-laptop-fix-dc-power-jack/

Just follow the steps up to removing the Keyboard. These are listed just to give you more info on replacing a Keyboard, not disassembling the entire laptop.

[ WOW, that Keyboard is expensive! Suggest you look around for a better deal. I just posted that example to give you info. Average price SHOULD be no more than $40 to $50. Ebay? ]

My sony vaio vgn-nw320f was totally dead.i had pulled up the battery cause it could not log off.please help me.....

Most sony laptop power supplies have a power LED that indicates if the device is A) plugged in {ok it happens!}, or B) fried and not providing power to the laptop. Check this first. If the power supply is plugged in and the LED is on (usually green or red) then see if you have ANY lights on the laptop itself. Its possible that your LCD display went bad but that the laptop is otherwise running. You may see a power, hard drive or wireless network light on if the laptop works but the LCD went bad. You can also connect an external monitor to the laptop and power it up to check the LCD.
I've also seen where the battery goes bad and it keeps the laptop from booting. Try removing the battery and power up (with the ac adapter plugged in) again.
If neither of these helps, you may be looking at some kind of internal short on the motherboard which is big money. Hopefully that isn't the case.
Hope this helps!!

Vaio VGN-CR35 laptop not booting at all. When started, screen is blank and power led turns on, num/scroll/caps keys flashes once, battery and hard disk led turns on once and immediately goes to off....

This could be a sign that your laptop is overheating. If you touch the laptop while it is running & you find it too hot, make sure that the fan is running properly & that the air ways are not blocked.
You can blow compressed air into the cooling vents of the fan. If you notice clouds of dust coming out, then it might be a good idea to disassemble the laptop, clean the fan & air ways, & reassemble it back. If the fan has failed & is no longer running, it might need to be replaced.

If none of this solves the problem, or is not the case, then you might have a bad motherboard.

The ac power plug was broken loose on my sony vaio vgn fw140e and finally the laptop failed to power up. I'm pretty sure the power adapter came loose from the mother board . I just don't know how to fix...

1. Test power adapter for output voltage. Bend the power cable in various directions while doing this to be sure that there is no broken conductors in the cable.
2. If power adapter is Ok, connect it & see if the power LED on the laptop will glow when you jiggle the power connector in various directions. If yes, then the DC jack might be loose or damaged, & need to be either re-soldered or replaced.
3. If not, then disassemble the laptop. Remove any components that attach to the laptop's motherboard first (e.g. battery, hard drive, RAM, wireless card, optical drive, ... etc.)
4. Next, remove the keyboard & the LCD screen.
5. Finally, unscrew all screws that hold the upper cover & lower cover together so that you could gain access to the motherboard.
6. Inspect the solder points connecting the DC jack to the motherboard. Make sure that none of them is loose. If any, re-solder them.
7. Inspect the center pin in the DC jack. Make sure that it is not broken or loose. If it is, then you might need to replace the DC jack.
8. When you are done, re-assemble back the laptop.

Sony viao wont boot, battery light flashes amber once when power button is pressed, AC power indicator on laptop is green and responds to being un-plugged and the adapter LED is green, but it still wont...

Move the power jack around while plugged in, does the blinking on the battery stop when you hold it in certain positions? If so, your dc-jack needs to be soldered, but i probably was loose already before you started using it. It could be a broken motherboard issue as well. You can try to open the laptop and check the dc connection. There is a Laptop Repair Guide that shows you how to take apart a laptop, the sony may be made in a similar way. Sony Repair NYC

VGN-S1XP laptop will not power up despite resetting it.

have you tried taking the battery out and powering up without it in, if you get no power at all your charger is more than likely at fault. if you can power up then it is the battery or connections that are at fault
