My coolpix L18 has a white screen when i turn it on. what can i do about this?

The same thing happened to my 2 week old L18. I called the Nikon parts department and they want $59 for a replacement screen. I'll take the camera apart tonight and see if it is easy to replace.

Try this, it may work without the software.  Turn off the camera. Plug the usb cable between the camera and the computer. Turn on the camera. If a box pops up on the computer asking what you want to do, scroll down and see if there is an option to view pictures. If a window opens up with all your pictures on it, great. Now open up a folder where you want to put your pictures. Bring up the other window with the pictures in it and hit the control key and the d key at the same time on your keyboard. Then drag your pictures to the window where you want them and let go of the mouse key.  They should all move over. Then you can use Windows image viewer to see them. Let me know if that works.

Hello,
It seems the LCD wiring film cutted the connection to the main board of the camera. Sometimes if you shake the camera without being carefull, it may happens. Whet it occurs, you should be dissassbled the camera by help of a tecnician of an authorised service center.

If you have any experience doing such things, you may do it yourself also.There is no need to change any part for such conditions. The only thing is to be done is to disassble and collect together again the camera. The repairers do not want much money for this. At the same time you may do it yourself.

If you want to do it follow these steps please.

1. Turn off the camera.
2. Remove the SD card and the batteries first.
3. Unscrew the screws carefully.
4. Gently open the covers. (Be carefull not force any part)
5. Look at the connectors of the LCD carefully.
6. Try to touch the film connectors of LCD.
7. Try to stick the film.
8. Before collecting together the parts of the camera, insert the batteries to their own places.
9. Turn on the camera.
10. Control the LCD if it opens.
11. If it is not opened then try to stick the connections again. While doing this control again the LCD.
12. The LCD will work I think.
13. Turn off the camera and remove the batteries again.
14. Try to to collect together the camera very slowly, step by step and gently.
15. After all insert the SD card and batteries again.
16. Tur on the camera.

That is all. I think this knowledge is helpful enough to fix it.
