One or more of the hints below will probably sort out most USB problems with most USB portable / external hard drives and OTHER devices (though not always)

A few things to check but assumes USB and Windows for other interfaces / operating systems (mac/ Linux) similar steps may be adapted to suit.

1. Ensure it is connected directly to the computer to a USB 2.0 port not a USB 1.0 port as this can have effects on performance and reliability

2. Use only the cables that came with it NOT one that fits that may have been lying around or is longer. Not all USB cables are equal even though they should be)

3. Do not connect through an external USB HUB unless that hub is USB 2.0 AND has its own power supply.

4. Use ONLY the power supply that came with it if it has an external power supply Don’t use any other unless you know it has both the same voltage and current rating e.g. 12V 500mA anything rated below that would not work properly.

5. Always use the same port for connecting your devices. Some devices do not like being switched about. If switched they may want to install software / drivers again. This can be especially true if you move a HUB to another port
6. For FLASH DRIVES you should ensure that the device is set for "quick removal" using the drive control panel properties or use the USB "Safely Remove Hardware" option. If you dont do this there is a very strong chance that any files you transfer may not be there when you plug into another computer.

If you checked and fixed anything there and still have issues then check your hardware from CONTROL PANEL / SYSTEM / HARDWARE.
Any exclamation marks by hardware need fixing before you investigate any further

USB flash drives can fail for no apparent reason.
Sandisk Cruzers are especially bad for this.

USB hard drives should be treated with extreme care.
This is a real hard drive ! and knocks and bumps can quite literally kill them.

It is possible to remove drives from the enclosures in most cases and connect directly inside a PC to fully check it.
You should also do this to cheack the drives connections are not bad inside the enclosure

Note that if you hear a drive clicking or pinging this could be the worst thing you would hear.
Known as "The Click Of Death"

If none of the above steps help look at updating the drivers from the manufacturers web site in the support section.
NB !
If I keep collecting "frozen hard drives" at the rate i do i will soon have enough to build a small house.

Toro zero turn wont go forward or reverse

zero turn has 2 hydrostatic transmissions. Check drive belt, pulley tensioners for clog.
Remove clog with stick instead of your fingers if in the way of mechanism, belt or pulley wheels.
Check to be sure belt is taught and pulleys move. wd-40 is ok .
Do not get wd-40 onto pulley guides, or pulleys but only to tensioner mechanism and springs.
Paper towels are good spray blockers, wrap belt in paper towels if wd-40, do not use white lithium spray but only small amounts of grease when perform full breakdown and assembly maintenance on deck and drive.
The hydrostatic pumps might be drain&fill possible if they each have a vent hole and a drain plug next to vent hole somewhere. Clean them up with carb cleaner or use starter fluid if really nasty build up. Then check for hex tool drain plug and vent hole or vent cap over hole. Do not use vent hole for topping off hydro's

Spark plug stuck

spray a squirt of WD-40 down the plug hole and work the plug a bit each way to allow it to work past the thread . Keep applying the WD -40 until you get it out . Check that you have the correct reach plug as this happens if the thread is too long and the threads become filled with carbon .

The cord wont pull out at all

Hi nd erl;come to FixYa. I am Kelly
You most likely have some corrosion on the cylinder walls or crank shaft / rod end bearing.
Remove the spark plug and spray a generous amount of WD 40 into the spark plug hole. Let it sit over night. The next day try pulling the recoil. If that does not work you will have to remove the air shroud, grasp the flywheel NOT by the fins and rock it back and forth until the engine turns freely. After it rotates freely... dump out the WD 40. Allow several minutes with the cylinder head inverted for the WD 40 to drain. Then attempt a start after re-installing the spark plug. If the WD 40 keeps fouling the plug you can very carefully wash the cylinder with gas... just stay away from any sparks or flames and make sure to wipe up / dry off any residual fuel.

Since you did not include a model number this a generic response that should get you going again. If there is a problem with the re-coil... again I need the model number please.

Thanks for choosing FixYa,

Kia ora, i have a makita 2 stroke grass cutter, that just wont start, checked, spark plug, fuel, took it apart and cleaned it..still wont start. Please help, it does not have model number only product...

Engines need 4 things: Spark, compression, fuel, exhaust

1) Does spark plug have spark?
Take out plug, put plug wire back on plug, hold plug threads against metal part of engine, pull cord, do you see spark between plug and engine?

2) While spark plug is out, put finger over hole and pull cord. Do you feel suction that shows compression?

3) What about the exhaust port? Is the screen blocked with carbon deposits and dirt? Soak it in WD-40.

4) Do you have 2-cycle oil in gasoline? Do you have fresh gas? Did you leave gasoline in tank for several months? Is the carburetor clogged with gum?

5) What about the air filter? Does it fire up without air filter? Will it fire if you spray WD-40 into carburetor? Can you keep it going while spraying WD-40 into carburetor?
If it fires with WD-40 but won't keep going on it's own, then the gas is not getting to carburetor or carburetor is clogged with gum.
