Question about Yamaha YSP-800 System

2 Answers

Suddenly the unit has failed - no power at all.

The Yamaha YSP-800 will not turn on. There is no evidence of powering on at all. Plug and fuse are OK. This seems to be a common problem cropping up out of warranty. Any solutions?

Hi there, I suspect I know what the problem is. If the YSP-800 won't power on at all, you might have the same problem I did with TWO Yamaha soundbars: capacitor rot. I have repaired both my soundbars by replacing ONE capacitor. It's not a difficult job at all and I purchased the replacement capacitor from a high street electronics retailer in the UK called Maplins for 99p. I have written a blog post on how to do this repair on a HTY-750 but I also repaired my YSP-900 in the same way. You will absolutely find that the YSP-800 internals are very similar and it will be capacitor C515 that has failed.

Hope the link helps.

Power became intermitentnow no power whatsoever changed the plug/fuse but no joy any suggestions

Replace with a 22nf capacitor - Maplin part number N38CN -
the new maplin part has a higher voltage rating and is bigger. it will need to be fitted with the leads extended with wire to get it to fit.

I got same issue. Solution is to buy a efergy standby eliminator plug so it can respond to the On/Off signal by cutting off and restoring mains power

No power to the system checked all plugs and cables had been working for 2 years

I cannot know any specific answer but presuming that you have power at the wall socket (don't laugh sometimes it is that easy) a piece of electronics will not work because voltage is not getting to the circuitry inside. The most logical place to look is at the fuse but too often these days that is buried inside the unit and may be soldered on a printed circuit board. It is presumed that users will not fix anything and its certainly cheaper to solder one in than provide a fuse post externally . Clearly in such cases you must open the unit and check. If there is no fuse or the fuse is good it will require an electronic tech to trace the problem further.
