Question about NetGear WGR614 Wireless Router

I cannot connect to the internet using the router the computer does not detect the router please help me with my problem thanks.

We ll start with the physical connections.
1.take ethernet cable n connect one end of the cable to the modem and the other end to the isolated port on the router(internet port) and then connect the computer and your router with other cable(any lan port).refer the chart on the router to distinguish the internet and lan port.
2.check the light status on the modem and router.
router lite status-power,alphabet i lite,wireless lite(lollipop lite) and the number light lit up(depends on the port eg port no:1 connected number 1 light lit up).
3.check the ip address and default gateway address.
steps:In windows(xp,2000 etc),click on start->click on run->in the search tab type cmd->dos prompt window opens,type ipconfig and u ll get ip address and default gateway address(192.168.1.1 or 192.168.0.1).note it
In vista,start->in the search tab type cmd->dos prompt window type ipconfig->u ll get the address as specified earlier.
4.open the browser,type the default gateway address in the address bar and press enter.The login window ll ask for username and password. username-admin
password-password.
5.You ll enter the netgear smart wizard page.Run the setup wizard at the left side (blue screen).select yes and detect the type of connection.
6.If it is a cable modem-dynamic ip detected and click next.check whether the dns address is given automatically from isp and click apply.Then click on basic settings under setup menu and in that window in the router mac address select "use computer mac address "option and click on apply.Now click on router status under maintenance menu and check the ip address in internet port(it should not bo 0.0.0.0) and in lan port(eg 192.168.1.2 or 192.168.0.2).
7.If its a dsl modem-the type of connection ll be detected as pppoe.click next.configure your router with the username and password provided by the isp and click on apply.The router ll save the settings and then check the internet port and lan port
address as given in the previous step.
8.Now we have to configure the router for wireless settings(both modems same configuration).
*click wireless settings under set up menu.
*In that page enter
name(ssid):netgear1
region:us
channel:11
mode:g and b.
In security options select wep and key1 give your telephone number so that you wont forget the password.we have secured the n/w.
9.scan and connect to the network.
For windows vista-start->connect to->select the network name(netgear2)and click connect->it ll ask for password,enter it(telephone no).you ll successfully connected.Now disconnect the cable and try going online wirelessly.
For xp-start->control panel->network connections->right click on wireless network connection->select the network and configure.
10.you ll be able to go online wirelessly if there is any problem delete the preferred networks.
I have given you all the steps with examples to help you configure the router.hope you ll fix the issue and further assisstance im ready to help u but pls give details about your operating system,type of modem and no of computers so that it ll easy for me to troubleshoot.

I need more details, but I recommend that you download the manual and go step-by-step through all the settings. I trashed my Netgear and that is what I did to fix.


I found the manual for the Linksys WRT54GC (and many others) at this location "http://www.generalmanual.com/Network/Linksys-WRT54GC-Compact-Wireless-G-Broadband-Router.htm" (other locations want a pint of blood before they share the document).

Chances are you need to start with a factory reset (find a paperclip and press-hold the recessed button -- i don't know where), then attach the ethernet cable from your PC to a spare port. Open the browser and point to http://192.168.0.1/. If that does not work, try https://192.168.0.1/ (notice the 's' in https versus http).

Once you get the admin screen with a login prompt -- you are probably going to be successful.

The factory login is probably userid: admin with password: admin. Check the manual that you downloaded.

Getting the ISP information correct is crucial for completing the admin. You need to visit their website for the DNS server address, subnet mask and gateway. There are other configurations, but stick with this until you know it works.

Now you can connect the cable modem to the WAN port (not one of the four-eight LAN ports for your computers)

Now, with another browser session, point to a public IP: I like google -- so I would use, www.google.com.

If that works you are done. Connect more PCs and check if you need to setup the firewall. Usually the factory default is what you want for max security. If you need special "ports opened" for games, video streaming, etc. then you should post another question as that can be another night of Q & A :-))

Your friend is able to go online using the same wireless network. that means the wireless network is working properly and there might be a problem with your computer .
You said that you can connect to the wireless network but you can not go online.
Check the IP address and the default gateway of the computer.
Try to ping the router and DNS server and check what happens.
Make sure that there is no static IP address on the computer.

It seems that router need to reconfigure and once you reconfigure router i am sure you would be able to resolved issue.
Please follow steps to reconfigure router
1. Please remove all the connections from the router. Connect power to the router and then connect a cable from the computer into any of the 4 lan ports on the router. Make sure the modem should not be connected to the router or to the computer.
2. Open up the Internet Browser (Safari, Internet Explorer, Mozilla Firefox, Opera, etc.).
3. Put http://www.routerlogin.com/basicsetting.htm in address bar.
4. On the basic setting page scroll to the bottom and click on Apply.

Well your modem and router IP is same thats why you can't connect your router with modem

your have changed IP of the router,please follow steps to resolved your issue

To configure the router follow the steps below:

5. Whenever prompted for username and password please enter User Name as 'admin' and Password as 'password'.

8. In case you get the message: 'You already have a valid internet connection do you still want to continue', click 'YES'.
9. It should give you either a "Dynamic IP Detected" or "PPPoE detected".
