Toshiba Satellite L310, windows xp professional pack 2. My screen is lightly shivering every 4 seconds, even under DOS. During start up, there are black or yellow flashes. Is this a hardware of software problem? Thank you Marc

In that case it is not a software problem it is the hardware which is the monitor itself has been defective become yellowish. Replace the monitor with the new one.

Well if its during startup before windows loads it could be a bad lcd screen or if its during the loadup it could be bad drivers being loaded...make sure drivers for your lcd and adapter are correct ones and most recent

I need to reboot windows xp on my toshiba satellite laptop

The Toshiba Satellite A10-S169 includes several utilities to improve the performance or security of the computer, and to reconfigure the system's settings. Toshiba Satellites running Windows Vista 32-bit and Windows XP come with the Toshiba HDD Recovery Utility, which allows you to create a recovery CD of your system and applications. The recovery CD will allow you to restore your system and its settings in case your hard drive fails.

Click "Start." Click "All Programs." Expand "Hard Disk Recovery Utilities." Click "Recovery Disc Creator." Select "CD" as the type. Check "Recovery and Applications." Insert a CD into the disc drive. Click "Burn." The Toshiba A10-S169 will begin writing the recovery content to the CD. Follow the on-screen prompts to burn your recovery files to disc. Hope this helps.

Toshiba Satellite L310 problem , display cannot appears

If the screen went blank after the driver install, sometimes clicking the mouse on the screen will bring the picture back. It sounds like the monitor is having a conflict with the resolution the driver is throwing out. Reboot the laptop and when you see the Toshiba splash screen, tap F8 until you see the multiple boot menu. Scroll to Safe Mode with networking and reboot. If the screen comes up, go to the control panel > System > hardware > display adapter > click on the plus sign and double click the reported adapter.click on driver tab and select roll back driver > click yes to any prompts and click ok. Reboot normally and see if that clears the problem.

Getting grey screen with wrong machine

Create a bootable DOS disk and place it in the drive. Then restart the system. that should get you to a DOS prompt. At the DOS prompt you can tell it to change to the D: drive. You can tell if you have done this right because you will see a D: as part of the prompt. Insert recovery disk 1. If it does not start reading the disk type DIR at the D drive prompt. That will list all the files on the D: Drive. There should be one called autostart or install. Type in the name of the file including the extension. Hit enter.

A second approach is to hit F12 during start up and drop down to the second item and hit enter. That started the Toshiba recovery disk for me once when it would not read it automatically at start up.
