I did not know about the change in volume ... I did try headphones

later (after posting) and found they worked, however the speaker

continued not to work even though I adjusted volume several times

in both directions to the limits (as determined by trying the volume

    adjust in the working headphones).

The speaker seemed to spontaneously fix itself (it began working)

after about a week ... and about the time I was beginning to think

about taking other advice found here (retunr to Apple for diagnostics)

    Thanks for the help !

    Dana

My guess is it's a faulty upgrade, unless you aren't adjusting the volume after you take the headphones out (when you take headphones out, music stops, and the volume changes).

Try restoring it. If it still isn't working after that, try re-downloading the os 3.1.1 update. It could just be a corrupted file, and it does sound like it.

My ipod touch speakers are making a weird buzzing sound and when i plug in headphones it comes out of the left earbud only how could i fix this problem myself?

There is most likely some sort of debris inside of the headphone jack leading to that problem. The speakers sound like they are blown. Try holding the home button for 10 seconds, followed by holding the lock button for 10 seconds, put it into DMU mode and restore it completely. If this does not fix it, check with Apple and see if there is a warranty still left on it.

The internal speaker is not working. Why not? How

Sometimes this works if you plug and unplug the earphones. Take the thing back to the store for exchange as this is a common defect on these units.

When i take out my headphones out of mu ipod touch it wont let me hear it without the headphones on

you have to hit play again after you unplug the headphones and turn the volume up using the buttons on the left side of the device, if you have no buttons on the left side then you have the 1st Gen iPod touch which you can only listen to with headphones.

Cannot play external speakers

Try firmly pressing the iPod into the dock connector. If it works, good. If it doesn't, then your iPod may not have support for the speakers.
