It sounds like your hard drive has gone south for the winter.
You will need to reload your operating system and programs.
If your unit was hit or dropped while in operation, you may have dammaged the hard disk.

My laptop is saying Check Cable Connection!

What this means is that it has "lost" the windows installation. Possibly corrupted and possibly a virus
The message you are getting is due to the laptop looking for an alternative boot device, the PXE refes to network boot, the last in the boot order.

What you need to do is obtain a copy of the Windows disc, borrow a USB CD Drive and re-install. When getting to the install windows prompt, let it "find " the windows installation and REPAIR

If you do not have a USB device, the following is your only other option:

  1. You will need the following: Copy of a windows installtion disc; usb pendrive of 2 gb, probably aslo a usb floppy drive and floppy disc.
  2. You will also need this:
http://wintoflash.com/home/en/

  1. Now you need to borrow a computer to download the above software and visit the Acer download page to get the SATA drivers. Extract these to a floppy drive and make sure you have the TEXTMODE drivers!
  2. Run win to flash and extract the windows files from the cd, it will guide you through the process of making a BOOT Usb.
  3. Set laptop bios to boot from USB
  4. When prompted (have the floppy usb drive plugged in), at F6 press to detect the SATA drivers on teh floppy
  5. Follow instructions and you should have windows up and running again

I got a message that reads Non-System disc or disc error replace and strike any key when ready. What do I do?

Hi,

Here the reason why youre getting the error message

Remove the non-system disk from your boot device. For example, remove the non-system disk from the floppy drive or the CD-ROM drive.

Change your computer's boot sequence in you Bios. Make sure that you select a device that has boot files (or operating system files) installed.

If you start your computer from a hard disk drive, install a bootable operating system (such as Windows XP, Vista or Windows 7) on the drive.

Thanks for using Fixya

COMPUTER WONT BOOT UP ....GIVES MESSAGE OF UNMOUNTABLE BOOT VOLUME/ WINDOWS WONT START

Your hard drive might be bad - go to the setup or BIOS and check if it's detected. If it's not listed then check your hard drive - re-seat and reboot the computer.

My n610c started then error message came up saying windows had a problem and needed to close then nothing lap top powers up but will not restart windows i havent got a backup disc

More than likely you have a bad boot sector on your hard drive, there is little you can do without the operating system to re-install. if the computer has a floppy drive or you have a USB floppy drive you can use a Windows 98se disc and use fdisk to wipe the partition. There are several other disk utility programs that will accomplish this as well

Reinstalling windows 98 o toshiba 420cdt laptop

You have two choices:
  • Convert your windows 98 cd into many boot floppies. Then install from floppy. There is a utility on the CD (although I can't remember its name. I think it's something like makedisk.exe) that when ran will prompt you for many floppies.
  • You can remove the hard drive drive from the laptop, and insert it into another desktop computer. You'll need a small adapter to do this, like the one found here:
  1. http://www.pccables.com/cgi-bin/orders6.cgi?action=Showitem&partno=00504&rsite=00504
  2. Once you have inserted the drive into another machine, you can now copy the files from the windows 98 cd to the hard drive.
  3. Now re-insert the drive back into the laptop, and boot from the floppy again. Once inside DOS, you can change directory to your windows98 cd files on the hard drive, and simply run setup.exe.
The second method takes a little longer, but will give you many other benefits, including never having to insert the cd to install a windows component again. Let me know how it goes.

Does it have a floppy drive? if so, check if there is a floppy disk in the drive.

Let me know, and we can go to the next step.

Boot cd-rom type:cd-rom/non-emulation booting

No, it's because Microsoft changed the way boot CDs work with SP2. You need an old CD (Windows XP SP1). I had the same problem here, notebook without floppy, it won't boot from the newer XP version CDs (SP2 or SP3) - but an old SP1 CD works!
(Those were all original Microsoft CDs, and the SP2 / SP3 CDs boot just fine on several other PCs I tested. It's just that some old hardware has a problem with the boot mode used on newer Windows CDs.)

Acer Aspire 3610 laptop - Windows XP error

on a friend's Windows 98 SE or Windows ME computer, create a floppy "Startup disk". Insert in your pc floppy drive and turn on. If floppy drive was not accessed, then get to BIOS and ensure "Boot from floppy drive" is set prior to "boot from hard drive". Once at first screen, select "Boot with CD-ROM driver". Insert CD-ROM and initiate entire re-install of Windows. Windows may do some self-restarting. At first restart do this: get to BIOS and ensure "Boot from hard drive" is set prior to "boot from floppy drive".
