This is a common fault with the 360, it says that its a "general hardware failure" which could mean anything
really. In truth its the lead free solder that cracks with so much heat and as a result the Xbox 360 fails
causing the 3rrod (3 red rings of death) or e74 or even no sound but graphics or black and white problems just like you are reporting.

Firstly get a spare av cable from someone else, try this, if that does the same then try a different scart
input on the tv. if all this fails you need to fix your machine as it WILL get worse

You will need to get a 3rrod repair kit or get someone to fix it for you, there are guides available on the
internet. Im in the middle of producing one right now that i will make available free of charge for all fixya
members.

My Xbox 360 shows a grey screen, the sound works fine and i do have picture

Hey dude, I had this problem and found a solution on another website. Basically, I had either changed the display settings on my tv, or it had done it by itself or my new ps3 had done it or whatever, but to fix it I went into the TV menu, went to display options, on my tv it has something entitled 'Colour system' I changed that to PAL-60 and I now have colour, just to give you an idea of whether you have the same problem, try setting your x-box display to pal-50 and see if that shows colour (if it's easier to do), if it does then try then solution above! Hope it helps!

My xbox 360 is showing in black an white regardless of the wire i use

Most likely it is your tv that is showing in black and white. Teste the inputs on the tv and try changing the xbox to a different input setting...e.g. coax, rca, component, etc. Please rate this solution for me.

My Xbox elite is just over a year old. I have no red rings. Problem is that all games played on the box are now in black & white. There is no colour on my tv screen. There is nothing wrong with the...

Check and recheck and triple check the av/hd cables. If you want to help isolate, try hooking up your xbox 360 to another tv and doesn't matter if it is hdtv or standard to test out. That method will give your answer quick to help isolate the problem. If you have hdtv make sure your adapter has the switch set for hdtv and not standard and then go in the xbox 360 dashboard system settings and see if it shows up for display. Good luck!!!

Hi Mr.

ITs the three red dots of death , what i mean is they had that all over and had millions of people had to recall them, i guess your just getting crapy xbox's my friends xbox did that, he took to a shop to get it fixed, but they couldnt, so i guess your sol, get xbox 360 elite they hardly had any problems with those.

I would check to make sure your video settings aren't set to PAL-60 by mistake. It might be easier to resolve if you could let us know what leads you have and where you've plugged them in to.
