Question about Sony DVP-NC85H Multi-disc DVD Player

2 Answers

I can't turn off the "Progressive Scan" feature. When pressing the progressive scan button it only switches from "auto" to "video" but no other options. I tried turning the unit off and pressing 3, 6, and 9 on the remote with no success. I did tried all of this with the HDMI cable unplugged. Any suggestions on how to turn this feature off so I can use my HDMI cable?

Hi, thanks for the response. Unfortunately whenever I press that button it doesn't give me anymore than the 2 options I stated before. There is no "normal interlaced" setting to switch to like the manual says there should be.From what I've read, I can't use the HDMI feature unless the "progressive scan" is turned off. I've checked the cables and the ports on my tv to make sure they weren't faulty. I'm currently connected using the component hook up. I even tried manually setting the HDMI output on the DVD player to a setting that is compatible with my tv (720p) and still had no picture or sound. I've been trying all these variable with the HDMI cable unplugged and rebooting in between changes.

I can't disable the "progressive scan" feature on my Sony DVP-NC85H. Apparently, I need to disable this feature in order to use my HDMI cable (which the DVD player will not acknowledge). Pushing the "progressive scan" button on the front of the unit only gives me 2 options: P. Auto and P. Video. The manual says it should also say "normal interlace" but it doesn't. I'm currently hooked up directly to my LCD TV using the composite connections. I tried manually setting the HDMI output to 720p (which is what my LCD is rated) but still got no picture or sound. I've also tried the reset function from the menu but still can't deactivate the "progressive scan" feature. I've double checked my cables and the HDMI ports on the TV and they work fine. When I plug the HDMI cable into the DVD player the indicator LED doesn't light up. I really just want my HDMI to work. Any suggestions?

Thanks for the response. Can you tell me exactly how to do that because I cant seem to find that option in the menu.

I'm using the remote but I'm not seeing any option for disabling the progressive scan or enabling the HDMI.

If you refer to p.21 if you are trying to get the interlaced setting. the hdmi indicator cannot be lit. If your tv has HDMI then you should be able to use progressive scan.
Thanks,
Lee

I was using my dvd players component outs for a year but my hi def tv died so when I hooked up my old tv to the single video out I can't get any picture out of it. I think I need to get into dvd player set...

If its an old Sony dvd player then check Progressive Scan button at rear or some may have it on front to turn off to get composite video output (yellow video out)
And if it does not have any manual switch for progressive scan then turn off dvd player by pressing power button on its remote control, press 3, 6, 9 on dvd remote and press power to turn dvd player On.
That will turn off / disable progressive scan mode and you will get video output from yellow video out jack.

Make sure red is matched up to red, green to green, and blue to blue first. Then, try a different set of YPbPr (component) cables if you have a set available. If it still shows up red, then read this:

No video output from rca jack or svideo

The problem is with the p.scan button. It seems if its pressed the video goes off. You need to keep it pushed until you see a message for "progressive scan".
