Question about Computers & Internet

No signal from router

My router used to work perfectly for a while. I don't know what happened, but one day it just wouldn't send out a wireless signal so I can't connect to the internet from my laptop. In order to connect to the internet on my laptop, I actually have to bring it to the room where the router is and take one of the cords out of the LAN port and plug it into the laptop. So, the router itself still works, it just won't send out a signal. There are a couple of lights on the front of the router that are flashing that wouldn't normally flash if it was working properly. Can anyone help?

Try turning off the power to the router for 30 secs and then power it up again.

Since installing my netgear wireless dualband router WNDR3400, the only way I can turn my tower off is to unplg the power supply. Please help

your pc problems have nothing to do with your new router. Your pc sounds like the mobo is not sending a kill signal to the power supply. You can either re-flash you mobo bios or try a patch for windows. Most likely this is not a fixable problem as the cost to fix it will be as high as a new pc.

My router isnt sending signal to my printer

The router doesn't send signals to a printer. The Linksys transmits a radio signal recieved by the wireless adapters on other devices, if your printer has wireless compatibility it must be setup on the printer, in the wireless settings. I don't think it's a Linksys issue. It a computer software issue. If you post the Computer Make, Model, and your OS, the Printer Make, mode,l I will try to help you. Is this the first time using the Printer?

Wireless internet connection drops frequently

Things That Affect Wireless Router Signals
1. Many wireless routers are using the same wireless channel. Many manufacturers choose channel 6 as the default. Change to another channel. 2. Analogue video senders used to send audio and video to other TVs in the home. 3. Microwave ovens emit interference in the 2.4GHz band. 4. Wireless speakers and console controllers can cause interference with the wireless router. 5. Bluetooth devices, newer Bluetooth devices can jump to different frequencies if there is a connection problem. 6. Power cables located near the wireless router can cause dropouts and speed reduction. 7. Fish tanks will cause massive Wi-Fi shadow on the other side of the tank from the wireless router. 8. Depending upon the location of large mirrors will reflect wireless signal away your computer. 9. Building materials will block wireless signals such as plasterboards with metal foil, reinforced concrete walls and floors. Also objects near the wireless router such as metal filing cabinets and other electrical appliances. 10. Blinking Christmas lights can reduce Wi-Fi performance by 25% when it is close to the wireless router.

Media streamer internet connection problems

This happened to me last night. I took my streamer to a friends house, but when i came back it was recognizing my SSID but not accepting my password. I don't know exactly what happened but i tried unhiding my SSID and redoing my password, but it still wouldn't work. ultimately I renamed my SSID, Password, and PSK. Then on my streamer I found my router through WPS. I just added the router PIN and it connected and brought everything up. Re- entered my password and was good to go.

How can I turn off the wireless signal emanating from the d-link unit without deactivating the direct connection that I am using it for. I don't want my kids using their I-Pod touch to download stuff...

if there is no option to turn off the signal just put in an encryption password and don't give it to anyone. HERE is the link to set up the encryption on your router.

My router is no longer sending out a signal- when I try to connect to the internet on my laptop, it does not even pop up as an option. What should I do?

There could be various reasons for your router's behaviour. Please try the following steps.

1. Restart the router by unplugging the power cable connected to the router and connect it back after 2 minutes.
2. Check after restarting it you see the signals. (check your wireless utility or windows utility to see if you see the signal).

The remaining steps depend on:
1. what you see in your Wireless connection utility
2. Lights glowing on your router
3. Are you the only one using the router
4. Is there any security configured in the router

My laptop works using my Belkin router, but my desktop will not connect to the internet

hello

your notebook has WiFi, which is radio frequency internet, it transmits and receives radio signals (frequencies) . Your desktop, most likely, does not support WiFi on its own , so you need to use RG45 cable , ethernet cable to be connected from your desktop to the router.
lan-cable-rg45-cat5e-cat6-utp-ftp-acr2101-.jpg

So in other words thsi is what happens with your notebook and the router.
  1. your notebook has built in wireless adapter which translates data into a radio signal and transmits it using an antenna.
  2. A wireless router receives the signal and decodes it. The router sends the information to the Internet using a physical, wired Ethernet connection, to your modem (supplied by your Internet Service Provider)
The process also works in reverse, with the router receiving information from the Internet, translating it into a radio signal and sending it to the computer's wireless adapter.

The radios used for WiFi communication are very similar to the radios used for walkie-talkies, cell phones and other devices.

you need to connect your desktop to the router via RG45 ethernet cable.

Well if you upgraded the firmware it should have solve any issue. Now do you have a different wireless computer. If you do check to see if that one is detecting wireless signal. Also if you havent created a network name when you upgrade firmware router goes back to factory default settings check to see if it is (laptop)detecting default.Make sure wireless capability is on.On computer. Also check to see if wireless light on router is on.IF light is not on then there is a problem with router.Try downgrading firmware to original firmware.
