Question about Televison & Video

1 Answer

I can't turn off the Progressive Scan feature on my Sony DVP-NC85H. I tried pressing 3, 6, and 9 while the unit was off but had no success. Apparently I can't use the HDMI connection unless the Progressive Scan feature is turned off. Any suggestions?

Hi, thanks for the response. I'm currently connected directly to an HD tv using the component connections. I tested both HDMI inputs on my tv using my digital cable box, which is also how I verified that my cable works. Pressing the "progressive scan" button with or without the HDMI cable plugged in gave me the same negative result. I was able to to go into the menu options and change the HDMI resolution to 1280x720p (which is what my LCD is rated) I even tried the next resolution lower just to be safe but the HDMI LED still didn't come on and I still have no picture.

When your player is connected thru HDMI cable it should automatically detect what your TV's display is capable of. I am assuming that you have the DVD player connected to a HD television. There should be a progressive scan button on the front of the player. But I don't think the button will work when it is connected to HDMI. How do you have the player connected? Is it directly to the TV or does it go thru a switch or a reciever then to the TV? If it is connected this way then that can be the problem. There is a signal that needs to make it to the TV and these devices can block the signal. So verify that it is connected directly to the TV and that the HDMI cable is working. If that is ok then connect another connection to the TV along with the HDMI cable also hooked up. Then change your TV's input selection to that connection. You should be able to get to the dvd menu and set the HDMI output from auto to a format that your TV will accept. Then go back to the HDMI input and see if you have a picture. Let me know if that helps.

Try connecting your DVD player to the television with the component cables(three rca cables red, blue, green). It will still be HD but you will need to connect the audio cables also. You should be able to use the progressive scan button when connected this way. I don't think the porgressive scan button will work when connected by HDMI.

Good day! Try to check the rca jack video input.Replace it with new one if defective. Also check the progressive scan features if activated. If it is activated check your TV if supported by progressive scan features, because some TV is not supported by progressive scan. You can deactivate it by turning off or activate the interlace mode.Press the open/close to open disk tray. And press the numeric keypad 1 for few seconds. Hope its help.

Has anyone ever solved the 'locked' tray problem on a Sony DVP NC85H?

Look on the bottom of the unit. There is a hole with the letters ex and op. Shine a light in the hole and you will see a white plastic object with a slot for a slot screwdriver. You can turn this either way but be careful. If you feel resistance and the object does not turn, turn the other direction and the unit will open. Op is open. Ex is exchange.

Another less elegant way is to open the unit's case, take off top cover and get your discs being held inside the unit that way. Be careful.

Of course you could take the unit in for service but may not be worth the cost.

I have a dvp 3960/37 player I am trying to hookup to a Sony KV 32fs120 TV using YPrPb as a component. The Sony manual says the DVP must be Setup before connecting. The Phillips manual says to use the TV's...

If you are using the component output from the dvd player (3 wire video) progressive scan connect corresponding cable to tv . Besure to match colors. If you are getting a black and white double image you need to set the output of the dvd player to progressive scan. See owners manual for dvd player to set this. The yelow color jack on the tv is composite video and is not compatible with the 3 wire video .

Need to turn OFF progressive scan on Sony DVD DVP-NS57P

With the remote: While in STOP mode, press the DISPLAY button. Use up/down buttons to select SETUP. Press Enter. Use up/down buttons to select CUSTOM.Press Enter. Use up/down buttons to select SCREEN SETUP. Press Enter. Use up/down buttons to select PROGRESSIVE. Press Enter. The manual is a bit indistinct after this, but I think the prompts will direct you. Just turn Progressive OFF.
