No need for that, just pluged your VGA cable to your laptop. Then in your toolbar bottom R/H find an VGA Icon and click on it and look for the right setting for external screen.

You don't need software, just connect the monitor's video cable to the ThinkPad's video port. Then power up the monitor first then the boot up the ThinkPad and the video will divert automatically to the monitor.
