Ice Maker Problems

I have a Magic Chef refrigerator model # CTB1925DRW. Purchased ice maker IMBD03-004, did not work. Returned it, got another one. Still doesn't work. Am I using the wrong model of ice maker? I used a cheater chord to check the water inlet valve, it works fine. It is not getting energized by the ice maker though. The colors on the wires for the freezer ice maker connector are different from the connector on the ice maker side. The grounds don't even end up matching up which is why I'm thinking the "universal" ice maker I purchased really isn't universal. Any recommendation?

Thank you aasc. I have indeed received a shock from the cabinet a time or two. Can you tell me what ice maker I should buy for my refrigerator model (# CTB1925DRW)?

You are correct on the green grounds . They have to match up , or , you'll be getting a short , and possibly a slight shock , when touching the cabinet . Universal is not good . You need to get the Ice maker designed for your brand and model .

SOURCE: magic chef refrigerator relay/overload

You need at least two terminals on your relay to hook up a capacitor, one wire of the capacitor goes on one terminal of the relay and the other capacitor wire would get spliced in with the neutral line that plugs into the relay

SOURCE: Magic Chef Side by Side MOdel RC224RDA

I have the same problem. It turned out to be a problem with the doors. When my kids go to get a snack and close the fridge door (read slam the door) the air pressure pops the seal open on the freezer door causing the ice cubes to begin melting. The bottom items stay frozen (warm air rises). It took me a long time to work this out.
Remove the ice maker tray. Remove the ice blob, being careful to put the u-shaped wire ice-level sensing wire thing, in the up position or the system will dump ice and water all over the freezer. Put all back clean and dry and buy a velcro adhesive strip and install it on top of the freezer door to prevent the door from always blowing open.
Hope this helps

SOURCE: magic chef side by side heating instead of cooling :-(

Gee, I hope you didn't throw this one away. The cooling settings between the two sides are out of balance, or something is blocking the airflow between the freezer and the refrigerator. Make sure the ducts that blow air are not blocked, set both sides on a medium setting, and give it some time (12-24 hours) to equilibrate. Also make sure the fans are running and the coils are free of dust. I have to clear the coils of my current refrigerator once a week from accumulated cat toys. Generally the cat alerts me long before the fridge does.

SOURCE: I have Magic chef Model

Remove the food and the ice maker from the freezer ( if equiped ) . Remove the rear freezer panel . Using a hair dryer , start in the middle , below the coils , defrosting , until you see the drain hole . Use hot water to help defrost the hole . Once water starts going thru the hole , use a small hose inserted into the hole , and blow thru , to remove any unseen debris in the drain line . Use an ALUMINUM or COPPER solid wire , 14-16 guage , with the insulation completely off , and insert one end into the drain hole as far as possible without any force . Lightly hook the other end over the glass rod (defrost heater) , above the hole . When refrig goes into defrost , the heat will transfer from the heater , to the wire , keeping the hole from freezing up again .

Magic Chef RB15FA0AA Refrigerator I have this refrigerator and it still works fine. I would like to know it's total cu ft capacity. Also what the refrigerator and freezer each cu ft capacity is.

After some work online...I found this advertisement buried among a bunch of other ads:
Magic Chef RB15-1A: Top-freezer style with 14.6 cubic ft. capacity and optional ice maker -- $439.

So, as I suspected the "15" in the model number is the cubic feet (total I would say). The 14.5 is probably actual, with the unit "rated" as a 15 CF.

Naturally, to find the cu. ft of the freezer, measure in inches then multiply the width X height X depth and divide that resulting rather large number by 1728 to get your cubic feet of the freezer.

You could also do the same with the refrigerated section, and add the results together and they should be near 14.5 total.

Magic Chef refrigerator model CTF1923. erratic ice production

As long as your freezer temperature is at 0 you should have steady ice production. If you have to jumper the ice maker to get it to harvest then you most likely have a bad thermostat. That coupled with the leak issue really warrants just replacing the entire ice maker.
Be sure to ask for pricing on both the ice maker by itself as well as the complete kit. You may be surprised to find that the entire kit (including a new valve, line and bucket) will cost lest than just the ice maker by itself.
Good luck!
