Question about IBM ThinkPad T23 2647 Notebook

1 Answer

I have an IBM Thinkpad model T 23 and a Simpletech external hardrive, a Signature mini. They seem not to work together, i.e. the simple tech unit shows up under My Computer, but nothing is readable. The USB connection on the T23 is not a high speed bus, but otherwise, what else could be the problem? Thanks!

I've tried switching ports, as well as using both together. I'm also running XP. What else can I try?

Under disk management, the external HD is not showing. It does appear under my computer, though without any contents.

With another swap of USB ports, the external HD can now be seen.
Now, how does one format an external HD? Thank you.

Usb1.1 is slower than usb2 version, but should read your hard disk,, try connecting with other usb port, some times windows errors effect in detecting,,and sometimes,, problem in usb port connection

    for this now ,,

now you do is,, go to control panel,,

now click on the administrative tools > computer management >

in storage section there you can see diskmanagement,,

click on it, and it will take seconds of time to open you all connected harddisks,, and now click on your usb hd to format..,,, this way it should work.. now

I need a manual for the black cherry portable high-speed UB 2.0 hard drive. The one I have is 160 GB. Thanks.

Here is the manual that covers all of the SimpleTech Signature Mini External USB 2.0 Hard Drives. This is a pdf document, so you may need to install Adobe Acrobat Reader if you don't already have it installed.

I just recently bout a 250gb simple tech external drive. I came home installed but it wont show in my computer

You might try a different cable or use a USB "Y" cable to supply enough powere for the drive to work, as some computers have difficulty providing enough power from a single port. If you need more help, please call HitachiGST Tech Support M-F 8AM to 6PM PST at 1.888.426.5214 and a technician will be happy to help you.

Simple Tech HD failing- takes 4 hours to tranfer 512 MB!?

Not exactly a solution but I have had the same problem with one of these Simple Tech Signature Mini 320's for a while. Real finicky. Will only be recognized on direct connected to MB USB ports and even then with Win 7 or XP I get the "This USB device can perform faster if you connect it to a Hi-Speed USB 2.0 port." no matter what ports I connect it to. While having this issue on this "main" computer I have previously connected it to some other computer (don't remember which, now) and it connected at 2.0 speed. What's going on??

I have a mini simple tech 160gb hard drive that when I plug it in an error message about power surge on the USB port. What can I do to get the data off of the drive

Probably not the right answer for your problem. Mine is an external 1 TB Simple Drive. Mine wouldn't respond at all. I unplugged the power cable from the back of the hard drive and replugged it in and instantly it worked (with the computer and hard drive plugged in). I had tried rebooting the computer, plugging/unplugging over and over into the computer and that didn't work.

Not being recognized now

It wasn't a malfunction of the simple tech unit, the problem was with the computer itself. I finally re booted the computer and the problem resolved itself. Thank you for being there and I learned a bit out of the experience (I am new to mac's)
