Hi, Thank you for the tips, I had done step one, I saw the message that reads ""DO YOU
REALLY WANT TO ERASE ALL USER DATA". However, I couldn't select yes, when my finger still needed to hold on the power button to let it turn on, I used the wheel to move up YES but I couldn't. I tried to let go the buttons and turned the wheel quickly but that wouldn't work b/c the GPS turned off right away. Please help! I love my Garmin and just owned it not long ago Thank you ~Christy

Before writing the unit off as dead I would try obtaining a new 12v power cable and maybe try your cable in someone else vehicle, often the 12v power in your car can short not providing power to the GPS.
Had the same problem. Fixed with a new battery. Takes the same as a Streetpilot c530 and can be purchased anywhere on line. A 10 minute job with a soldering iron.
1. Open face plate. Unscrew 4 screws. Remove battery connector and clip.
2. Unsolder the wires to the two speakers - 4 wires.
3. Remove the sticky wrap from the old battery and place around the new one (to stop it rattling).
4. Solder back the new speaker wires.
5. Plug in battery, reassemble unit and charge Garmin off PC wih usb cable.
Sounds like your battery died and there's no juice to it. When the battery is low, the unit shuts itself off and has a hard time starting up. If possible, try plugging in your unit with a USB cable from the computer and leave the computer on for a few hours and see if that doesn't solve the problem. When in the car, sometimes the cigarette lighter socket comes loose.
Regarding your i3, the USB drivers must be loaded BEFORE you connect your garmin. If you do not have your USB drivers, you can download them from:
I have a 100v A/C power / charger unit for my garmin C340 GPS that I use to charge my Garmin's battery every day. I can use thj adapter to run the GPS, or just turn it off and let it charge the GPS. But it connects dirctly to the Garmin GPS unit, not to the cradle like the Cigarrette lighter unit does. .
Sound as though the I3 is not getting power from the lighter. Hook the garmin to your laptop and turn on the laptop, now turn on the I3, does it still shows low battery message on the screen? If the answer is yes then the USB connector has failed (know problem with the I3). There are many unit sold on ebay with broken USB connector. If the I3 doesn't show Battery Low then the lighter cable is defective.
