The lights inside the LCD screen are connected in series, if one fails the screen will light momentarily and then shutdown.
What's the LCD model number?

My totaline thermostat model #p474-0100-a the backlight is staying on and when the furance is running after only a couple of minutes it shuts off and my furance shuts down .

Multiple issues that are not related. If the pilot light goes out then the thermocouple might be bad. If the pilot ignites the gas and everything shuts off, it sounds like the over temperature sensors are detecting heat in excess of what is allowed in the firebox. The thermostat issue has nothing to do with this.

Power is on but no display in the screen

You didn't give much info to work with, but, Could be a couple of things. 1) The backlighting (CCFL) may be out. If you can see the desktop as a faint image in a very bright light I would suspect the CCFL, there is a tiny switch that shuts down the backlighting when you close a laptop, sometimes it can get stuck. Also if the laptop is dropped, jarred, etc. 2) the wiring to the CCFL could be pinched, broken, and the obvious the Light itself may have burned out. 3) There is a ribbon cable that connects the monitor to the motherboard that may have a bad connection.

Having same problem where TV standby light comes on and logo appears momentarily then TV does not come on fully (backlight it on slightly).

You have to troubleshoot from its backlight inverter board itself. That is the first possible cause tho this fault to LCD TVs. If backlight inverter board have shorted inverter transormer [wnding short], the inverter board will take tremendous current from power supply, and this can lead to a momentory logo display and then shut down. The second possiblility is with its main digital board. In both cases, the respective board should be replaced as card basis, as there is no repair to these boards.

Dell SE198WFPf backlights go off after 2 seconds after power on. You can turn it off, then back on again and get light for 2 more seconds, then back off again. Light stays blue. Not a problem with the PC....

Ok, I have now had 2 different Dell SE198WFP monitors with the same problem (shutting down after a couple of seconds) and I had to read numerous posts on numerous blogs looking for a solution to this "problem" before I actually figured it out. Everything that I'd read suggested bad capacitors on the inverter board (and I'm sure that this is an issue, but it wasn't mine.) After replacing all of the caps on the inverter I still had the same problem.

Long story short, I found (on both of my SE198WFP monitors) that at least one of the four CCFL backlight tubes had a burnt wire on the end of it. Period.

Now I'm not sure if this is a common problem with this monitor or not, but it was in fact the problem with both of mine, and after fixing these wires both monitors now work just fine :-) It seems that all four CCFL's have to pull the same amount of current or the inverter trips the overload and just shuts itself down. I hope this helps!! "And good hunting"

Power light comes on but no picture

Try to check if the monitor displays anything - it would be very dark so experiment with angles/lighting. If you see picture it means that backlight is broken. Broken backlight can be caused by:
  1. Burnt "bulbs" (cathodes or LEDs) - If this is an LED backlit display then this scenario is highly unlikely.
  2. Broken inverter (most likely)
In both cases you need to have it repaired by a technician. If this is a relatively new display this will be cheaper than buying a new one.

Lc32gd8e backlight goes out in middle of a program

This is not a complete solution, but I have found that once the backlight has gone out, I can normally get it back by selecting the "Audio Only" option in the setup menu without turning the set off. This option is really intended for use with radio broadcasts when the picture carries no useful content.
When I press the 'menu' button on the remote and select the right hand most tab, the top option under this tab is 'Audio only'. I select the tab, and then exit from the menu until I need it. When the backlight goes out, I press the following key sequence:
menu, down, ok, right, ok, menu
and the picture reappears. Pressing the menu button opens the menu page at the correct (righthand most) tab. the down highlights the 'audio only' option, and the OK selects this. The right turns the option on (with the backlight working, the picture is removed, but the menu is still displayed). The second OK activates the option. The backlight is turned out. Finally, the second menu key press turns the backlight back on again. This technique has the advantage that the sound continues throughout the sequence, and the recovery of the picture is faster than waiting for the set to boot from a power off condition.
I suspect the problem is caused by an intermittent contact on one of the tubes, possibly as the result of some movement as the tube warms up and expands. (There are 8 tubes in the 32" set.) This causes a safety ciruit to shut down the inverter supplying power to the tubes. Switching off the backlight resets the safety circuit. If I manage to confirm this suspicion, I will write again.

Sony KDL-32ML130 lcd tv

Not really that tough. Sounds as though the backlight is shutting down, either from a power supply failure, or a failure of the backlight circuit itself. You can verify this by holding a flashlight to the screen in the area where the menu usually appears to see if it displayed on the LCD panel with no backlight. If you can faintly see the menu displayed, your backlight has shut down and the most likely cause is the backlight inverter board, followed by the power supply and the backlights themselves which are part of the LCD panel. If you found this information answered your questions, please be sure to rate it. Thanks!
