You can use any 12V, 2A tip positive adapter. You can find one at Best Buy, Radio Shack, etc.

The SimpleTech 160GB ext. drive has a usb 2.0 cable with a y plug. I can only plug in one but I use the additional power supply. I get a message at times telling me to use the usb 2.0 port for faster...

You are using the correct connection, the external power supply is powering the drive, so the USB cable is just handling data. I believe the message may be telling you that you will get faster performance using a USB 2.0 connection, it is probably sensing that your computer's USB port is USB 1.1.

I have a mini simple tech 160gb hard drive that when I plug it in an error message about power surge on the USB port. What can I do to get the data off of the drive

Probably not the right answer for your problem. Mine is an external 1 TB Simple Drive. Mine wouldn't respond at all. I unplugged the power cable from the back of the hard drive and replugged it in and instantly it worked (with the computer and hard drive plugged in). I had tried rebooting the computer, plugging/unplugging over and over into the computer and that didn't work.

I restored my computer and i saved all my data in my one touch 4 mini hard drive. Now my computer wont read one touch 4 mini 250gb. can some one please help me i lost everything?

No, you haven't lost anything. When you restored your software, you only restored the factory stuff. You'll need to reinstall the driver for the external hard drive. After you do that, your external drive and data should be accessible.

I can't delete files from my 160 GB Simpletech hard drive and it is full, what should I do?

Do a "disk cleanup"
Click on [My Computer]
Right-click on the External drive (D?)
Select [Properties]
In the [General] tab, click on [Disk Cleanup]
It will "scan" your drive, but not remove anything... alow it to complete the scan.
Look at the recommended list that appears and accept its findings.
This should remove non-essential files and leave your data intact.

Burn some of your data, especially video content to DVD (make at least two copies) ... then remove the data from your external hard drive.
You may want to purchase another (larger) external drive. You can use two of them or move your data to the new one.

Simpletech hard drive

Your desktop usb compatibility is not supported your 160GB. The only way to attach you 160GB is to make it secondary partition to your primary drive by opening the CPU and attach it to your IDE cable.

Don't force yourself if you cannot do it by yourself just leave it to the expert. Probable cause to damage your hard drive if it is not installed properly.

Please rate me solved if you like my solution.
