Does it start out in full brightness then fade away completely? During this process... does the white color appear pinkish or yellowish? When it goes out, are you able to see anything on the screen if you place a bright light source in front of it? For this you might need a really bright light and careful observation. Let me know.

yes i can see when i put bright light to the screen. Also if i use an external monitor, it shows everything fine. But the original screen has no light. How can this be fixed?

What causes a Syncmaster 2253LW monitor to start ok and immediately fade.

The monitor may be failing. Here's some tricks I would try...
1. Verify the monitor's power cord is plugged firmly into the wall outlet and the back of the monitor.
2. Verify the monitor cable is firmly connected to the computer and the monitor.
3. Verify that you have turned the monitor power switch on.
4. If the power light on the monitor is not on, test the wall outlet (plug in a light or something you know works).
5. If the power light on the monitor is not on, try a different power cord.
6. If the power light is on and yellow or orange or flashing, but nothing displays, or the display is incorrect, borrow a monitor from a friend. If that works, your monitor probably needs replaced.
7. Also, you could try your monitor on a friend's computer. If it doesn't work, your monitor probably needs replaced. If it works properly on your friends computer, the problem may be with your computers video output port, motherboard video chip (or video card, if you have one), or drivers.
Good luck.

Toshiba a305 Screen Blank on Power up.

Yes, the first step would be to use an external monitor. You may have to use the FN key with a function key to tell it to use the external monitor. If the external monitor works, try shining a bright flashlight on the display. If you can see images, then the display itself is probably OK and either the back light or inverter are bad.

If the external does not work and shining a light on the display does not show images, then it could be graphics card or main board.

Does the laptop make any noises? e.g. Can you hear fans, hard drive, does the CD light come on during boot up. If yes, to all the above, then the mainboard seems to be OK and it could be graphics or display. If unsure, you can remove the RAM chips and it should beep upon startup to say there is no memory and this is a good indication that the mainboard is functioning somewhat.

Good luck and post your results for further help and to let me know if you have figured it out.

My monitor comes on for about three seconds when I turn the computer or the monitor off/on and then it fades to black. It looks like the computer is booting up fine when I can briefly see the screen but...

Connect the monitor to the "video-output" port on your laptop, to see if the monitor is working correctly.
You make have to tell the laptop to send the video-output to "both" the internal LCD screen and the external monitor.

If it works, then your monitor is OK.
Restart your computer, and keep tapping the F8 key, until you get a menu of startup items. Choose the 'VGA' startup option, to select the "minimal" device-drivers for your video-card. With the "minimal" drivers, your monitor should still be working.

If your screen is broken then thats both bad and expensive
but there is a way to test
try to hook it up to an external monitor to see if that will work. it it doesn't then something is wrong with your motherboard

Plasma no picture, fades to black from startup logo

UPDATE:
I finally isolated the problem, the problem has to do with the Y SUSTAINER BOARD not receiving enough/necessary voltage when turned on, while initially thinking it was just the yboard was the problem, i replaced the Y sus board with no success, with only further diagnosis, i discovered the board voltages coming from the powersupply, there are 5 voltages that relate to the Y sustainer board, VA, VSC, VS, VE, VSET. they all supply a certain voltages that all have to be supply the correct voltage in order for the y sustainer board to be working, well guess what, the VA line, which for my set needs 70volts, which upon startup quickly drops from 75volts to a jumpy 8.5-9.5 volts, which of course is nowhere near the 70 volts needed, so this quick drop in voltage is directly related to the screen fade upon startup, i found the problem now the real problem is finding a replacement power supply. hope this helsp anyone with similar issues.
