There are a number of reasons why that happened. It could be you ejected your memory card from your psp without powering it off first, your memory card is too full of files up to its very last megabyte, or probably it's just another hardware glitch. Try powering off your psp, remove the memory card, reinsert it then power on your psp. If you still don't see your files, power off your psp, remove your memory card and then using a memory card reader, connect it to a pc to check if you can get access to your files. If your files still don't show up in my computer, then your files are gone for good. You have no choice but to start from scratch.
you will need a media card reader for your computer as that is the only way to put information on the card as the psp can only read the information on the card, then you can go in to the caard and put your folders in it. Create 3 folders GAME, MEDIA, GAME SAVES your psp can read these files but you will have to format the card to FAT 32 before the psp can read anything on it
Your Card Reader properly Connected to PC(Make Sure GOOD in Condition about the Reader)
Properly Inserted MMC to READER
Change USB port if Still Not Detecting
Try another MMC to Reader
Reinsert your MMC
Reboot your PC
Remove Lock of MMC(Lock might be in Left Side of Your MMC).Still you have Problem Please Change your CARD READER/MMC ...

First thing to check: Try another memory stick. It may be something as simple as a bad memory stick.
If you tried another memory stick and it works (and/or you tried your memory stick on another PSP and it works), you probably need a new memory card reader for the PSP. You can find it at the following website. Be sure to match up the model number of the memory card reader so that you get the right one. The website installs parts like this for $20 also:
IT could be that the card is corrupt or has been damaged by not properly using it. E.g. Powering it down while the PSP is accessing the memory stick.
You can try to reformat the card again. You can use your PC. Insert the memory card into a card reader and then once the PC detects the device, Right click and then click Format. Use NTFS and then click Quick Format.
If the above does not work, you might want to consider replacing it with a new card.
I am not sure how to put them on from iTunes. But to put things on the PSP you need a memory card and either a USB cord to connect the PSP to the USB port in your computer or a SD card reader in your computer. After you have done either of those, you have to plug in either the PSP (with the memory card inserted in the PSP) or the memory card in SD card reader. Once you have done this, a screen should pop up on your computer, asking you how to open the files on the memory card or PSP. Select the one where the picture is a folder (should say browse) and open up the memory card folder. Open up the folder in your computer with the desired files. Highlight the files, right-click on the mouse and select Copy. Then go back to the memory card folder and right click on an open spot and select Paste. This should copy the files over, but, even though they copy over, that does not mean you can acess them through the PSP. That I know of, Microsoft Word files cannot be acessed through the PSP. That seems to be one of the only files unable to be used with the PSP.

PSP uses Sony Memory Stick Pro Duo and you need an adaptor
(see picture) to use it on your external card reader or your laptop’s built-in
card reader. Also, please check your card reader if it supports Memory Stick
If you already have an adaptor but still doesn’t work, you
can buy a PSP USB data cable to transfer files between your computer and PSP.
The problem can be the memory stick or within the PSP system itself. Try inserting another memory stick into the non functioning psp. If the problem still persist that means the memory card reader cannot read the files try formatting the whole psp system. If that doesn't work you will need to get it repaired take to an electronics store that sells video game systems preferably game stop they will swap out the memory card reader
