Question about Toshiba Satellite A135-S4727 Notebook

1 Answer

I think my mobob is bad. I removed all hardware except screen, mobo, keyboard. NO wifi, NO harddrive, NO Ram, No DVD/CD. I remove all power, held down the power button for over a minute. Still does the same thing when starting. I hear the harddrive, BAAAARELY-as if it doesn't have enough power, NO LCD screen light, NONE. Scanning the internet, I keep coming up with a bad MOBO. nothing was spilled on it. It was left on the desk running, I went out, came home, it was dead. The only lights coming on are the "cord power attached" the "power blue lite" the battery will come on in "orange" if I leave it installed. The harddrive light never flickers.

I do have some tools and skill to replace a bad component on the mobo, I just wonder if its a common failed component that I can remove and replace? The exact model is Satelite A135-S4727, PSAD0U-0NF00P, SERIAL 67239856k. Where is the best place to buy a quality, fair priced motherboard? thank you.

See what you can come up with on the mobo for purchase recommedation? what is the actual part number? I've been looking at the web sites you recommended one of them is not easy to navigate. I now have the unit tore down to the mobo, I'm going to power it up and do some checks with my volt meter, heck, I even got an infrared probe....look for hot spots. I'm thinking of sending it to one of those repair guys on ebay....$150 repair? Thanks for your help.

Yes the mother board is bad! it most likely over heated and took it out. you have done everything you can do to test it unless you know how to test electronics and have the equipment to do so!

are the two guys i usually check first and also ebay. but if you can check the voltage coming out of the power supply then you can verify if it is the power supply part of board or the processor. kinda sounds like it is in the power supply board and the time it takes you to figure it out then find and buy the parts you could have replace the mother board.

so if you are smart you will just locate the board and be done with it or start looking for another one because as you must have found out these are plagued with issues with there power supply's on the board and might be just buying a little time.

sorry i didn't have a sure way tofix it but ith this model they are tough.

let me know if you don't findit i have a local guy that usally takes care of me but no warrenty. that the only down fall but i can check him for you if you can'tfind one.

Motherboard booting problems...How do I solve?

Hi

Try to boot with 1 stick of ram then swap it with the other and try again. Next unplug the case front connections from the mobo header (pins). Draw a sketch where they all go so you don't forget. I'm talking about the power switch, reset SW, HDD LED etc. Also remove anything connected to the back panel printers etc. Also remove the mouse and keyboard. Carefully, momentarily short the pins that were connected to the power switch and note results.

If it still doesn't boot, remove all parts from the mobo except 1 Stick of RAM, graphics card, PSU, and of course CPU. Leave the mouse and keyboard unplugged. Try to boot by shorting the mobo pins again. If it doesn't boot it is most likely either the PSU or the mobo. It could also be the CPU or RAM but it is less likely.

Please get back to us if you have further query else please accept the suggestion.

E-machine w5243 won't power on. Replaced power supply, nothing. Any quick diagnosis? Should there be a light on the motherboard to tell me it's at least getting power?

Almost all mobo's have a light of some sort to indicate power. If you replaced the power supply, check the power cable itself for damage or possible shorts. Check your outlet to make sure it is working properly. If there is a light on the mobo, then remove all power connectors to the all the hardware, i.e. hard drive, CD/DVD, etc.. Then remove one of the RAM sticks and try to power it on. If that is a fail then remove the other one and try to power on. It won't power all the way up, but it will give you 2 beeps (depending on default settings) indicating it has no RAM. If this works then replace the RAM. Both sticks if you have 2. If there is not light on the mobo, then check to make sure that the power supply cables are in correctly and all the way. You should have a 28 pin connector and either an 8 pin or a 4 pin connector. Make sure both of these are hooked up correctly. If they are, then you mobo is probably fried. If there is a light and the RAM passes the check then plug the power in the CD/DVD and try to power up, if this fails then you need to replace your optical drive. If the optical drive passes then plug the power into the hard drive and try to power up, if it's a fail then the hard drive is bad, if it passes then plug in the rest of hardware one by one and repeat the process until you have checked all hardware. If all the hardware passes then the mobo is shot.

I had two bad PC's One would not power up. Thought power supply. Took out identical power supply from the other bad PC. Still would not power up. I fiqured bad mother board. Put the power supply back into...

Ensure the power supply at the wall is good, ensure all plugs of power supply are plugged into Mobo, especially the CPU pwr supply if it has one. You really need to know 100% if the power supply you are using is good. If so and absolutely no boot. HDD activity then I would first suspect ram then CPU then mobo. Simply remove / replace ram, sometimes fixes them.

MONITER PROBLEMS

There is are many things that can cause this, try the following:

  • Disconnect any extra items you may have hooked up, disconnect power connectors too (except mobo and fans) (HDs, CD/DVD drives, extra cards except the video card)
  • Remove all but one stick of ram, then rotate the ram in several slots, and swap out that chip with others if it doesn't boot yet (sometimes bad ram will cause your error)
  • Re-seat your CPU
  • after all this also reset your bios, this can be done by unplugging the computer from the wall and removing the battery from the bios, or on some boards there is a jumper to do this (See your manual)
I hope this helps.

Laptop does not take any mains power

Try clearing your CMOS. This is done by removing battery and mains power, lifting the speaker cover off and then look under the keyboard. Unscrew panel where keyboard ribbon enters, you should now see your RAM & BIOS chip. Disconnect ribbon next to BIOS chip and reconnect, that should clear your CMOS.
