Gateway monitor FPD 1730: We have had it since

Gateway flat screen monitor FPD 1730: We have had it since 2004, now when we turn it on we get a quick flash and then goes black.

If the screen is black (ie there isn't any backlight) then the fault maybe the inverter board that supplies high voltage to the CCFL lamp ot the CCFL lamp is faulty.

There are no user serviceable parts inside the monitor.
There are also electrocution hazards when opening the monitor!

It is for these reasons that I advise you to replace it. Cost of repair will be close to replacing.

    For a laptop LCD screen, replacing the Inverter or Backlight would not be an issue. With a desktop computer monitor there are Electrolytic Capacitors inside, that hold a Much larger charge than a laptop LCD screen. These Capacitors are designed to hold a charge for weeks, sometimes months, after the unit has been unplugged from power. A skilled electronics technician, knows how to Properly drain the charge from those Capacitors, before working on the unit. I do Not know your electronics expertise, and advise you to Not open this unit. It is a Safety issue, and your safety is valued Above Anything else!

All support is finished for XP years ago. The system is 13 years old and well past it expected life. Average is 8 to 10 years on a shop bought unit like Gateway, 12 years on a custom build.

I am thinking you probably have a dry joint on the board behind the switch as holding the switch makes the monitor work.

My advice though is a new computer running Windows 10, technology moves on in hardware and software.

Monitor flashes on but with 1-3 seconds it goes to balck screen. I've replaced the electrolytic caps in the power supply, but it didn't help


Try different video and/or power cables, but most likely this is dead. Sorry!
If it's still under warranty, (or the computer it came with is), call Gateway support.

Why would the Gateway FPD 1730 17 in. Flat Panel LCD Monitor turn on,,then go right back off,,if you leave it unhooked for a few days then it will work for a short time than quit again


This sounds like a typical Capacitor in the Power Supply fault. Some people take them apart and replace the capacitors, however I recommend that you get a "Quote" for repair, as these often "Chain Fault" and I have seen a lot of disappointed would be fixers.

Computer will power up, but FPD 1730 screen stays dark, says "power saving mode" How to cure??

Its setting problem just fallow this stapes for the same.
Go to Start > Control panel > Power options Properties >
Turn off monitor: Never
Turn off hard disks: Never
System standby: Never

Apply > Ok
After that your issue will resolve.

Gateway flat screen monitor goes black when turned on


open monitor and look at the PC Board to locate some kind of DRY SOLDER or burn point , specially where a transformer is located , check re solder any solder point that looks suspicious , and try again , hope this helps

Try using it on a different computer, it's possible that it is your graphics card causing the problem. Check for bent pins.

problem of smps some time it happen the power supply con't give the complet supply.
if still problem then replace RAM
or replace the display card.
