Cant set security

According to you security settings of your modem is difficult for you.

But you don't have say the OS you are using there. It depend on modem and OS. while installing the driver supported your OS select the PPPoa/PPPoE. After installing go to the web explorer and type the link (IP add) of your modem at the address bar and enter in the modem settings. Your modem vendor will provide this IP or see the manual.

Then go to the security settings and set it pasword protected. Enable the NAT (Network Address Translation)with your Private IP address for security. You can follow the manual to set it properly

Norton not running and e-mail malfunctioning

Norton modifies your email settings to point to your local machine, so that incoming and outgoing mail is scanned before sending/receiving.

If you no longer wish to use Norton you will need to find your mail server settings from your ISP, and put these back in to your mail client for it to work without Norton.

Hope that helps!

I am hooked up with the Internet via Buckeye Cable System. However, when I log on, I get a notice that I am connected with the Internet via ''MS Home'' and it says it is an unsecured connection. When I...

The router is a Microsoft, not the modem. I know of only one other person that owns a M$ router. A Netgear would have been my preference and a lot less trouble.

If you press the window key and R, you'll open up a RUN box that you type in CMD and press OK. It will open up another box (DOS) and you type IPCONFIG. The machine will respond with your IP address and gateway. If the gateway is something like and your IP address is 192.168.1.x where x is anything but 1, it's a good start.

Open up Internet Explorer and type in the or whatever into the address bar. It should open up the web browser for the Microsoft router. Now, did you get a set of instructions with a quick setup? Is this the MN-xxx box? You get to search the M$ website for the setup instructions if you don't have or never had them. Or, remember that $40 Netgear?

The username and password might be admin and admin or blank. That lets you set up wireless security. It should have some pretty self-explanatory help screens to give you either a WEP key or a WPA-PSK key. I'd start with WEP and a simple 10 character hex password like FACE123456. If the neighbors guess it, you can always go for better passwords or change the one you just set.

Hope this works, and think of me down the interstate from you (x187).

Is the modem needs driver update

Usually the no dial tone error is not a driver problem but rather a problem with the modem itself. Modems are really finicky and even the slightest surge through the phone cord from an electrical storm can cause the modem not to get a dial tone. You will need to replace your modem and that will solve the issue.
