Any and all routers...
A router has "two sides" .. the outside public Ethernet network and the "private Ethernet network" inside your home.
Some routers have 1 outside and 1 inside ports; get one that has 1 outside port and 4 (or more) inside ports.
You can also use any wireless router.

Forgot the pasword how do i reset it

You have to reset your router. On most routers I have seen there is a small hole on the side near the power cord that will reset the router to factory specifications. This will do away with the password (Net Work Key) that protects your network from others signing on to your network without your permission. Once this is done you will have to re-establish your network code in order to protect it, as resetting makes it open to the world. Sign on to your routers manufacturer's site and you can learn all about your router and down load software to setup your router. for example. Linksys Router support information can be found at http://homesupport.cisco.com/?pagename=HS%2FCommon%2FDynamicWrapper&site=HSus&application=HS&locale=en_US&ppath=supportsearch&c=Page&support_keyword=Routers&lang=en&keywords=Routers

I switched ISP's and got a new dsl modem and now my router will not work. I can not find a disk for the router or any instructions. I have a Dynex 10/100m router. Help!!

Usually you need to program your router with the ISP's informations, is your ISP using PPPOE (user name & password required) to connect to there server or is it DHCP (automatic IP)???, once you have these informations you open your browser, than enter the IP address of the router in the address bar of the browser, than enter the user name & password of the router, go to the SETUP tab and select the correct type of connection (PPPOE or DHCP) if it's DHCP you normally don't need a user name & password than save & restart the router, if it's PPPOE you need to enter a user name & password (supplied by the ISP) than save & restart the router....

to find the ip address of the router, once your computer is connected to the router you click START, than RUN, type CMD in the bar, than a black window will pop up, type IPCONFIG, look for DEFAULT GATEWAY, note the IP address in the form of numbers separated with dots (ex: 192.168.0.1)

if you can't log in the router (unknown user name & password) than you have to RESET the router by pressing and holding the reset switch (usually in the back of the unit) for 20 seconds, this will bring the router to factory default, than you can log in with the default user name & password according to the router's manual...

You could try calling your new ISP's help desk, they can walk you through the setup if they are a GOOD and serious supplier...

Good luck!

Hello...

Steps To Convert your Belkin Router as an Access Point.

- Connect your D - Link Router to your PC & Check the Default Gateway It Might Be 192.168.1.1 or 192.168.0.1

( Finding Default Gateway: Right Click on Local Area Connection & click on Status - Click on Details For Win 7 & Win Vista & For Win Xp - Right Click on Local Area Connection & Click on Status, Select Support Tab & Click on Details )

- Now Connect the Belkin router to your Com .. Open Internet Browser & Go to 192.168.2.1

- Towards your Left Corner Under Wireless Clink on Use as Access Point

- It will Prompt you For a Password Leave it Blank & Click on Submit

- Select the Radio Button Next to Enable

- In Specify IP Address Type in IP Address in Range of your D - Link Router Eg: 192.168.0.254

- Select Subnet Mask - 255.255.255.0

- Click on Apply Changes

- Now Open the Router Setup Page Using the Ip Address which you gave EG: 192.168.0.254

- Connect an Ethernet cable From your D - Link Router to Any 1 of the Wired Slots on the Router ( Note: We are using Wired Slot as we have Disabled the NAT on the Belkin Router It Gives you IP Address From your D - Link Router & the DHCP on the Belkin Router is Turned Off)

- Power cycle the D- Link Router & Belkin Router For 15 Seconds Each ( Unplug the Power cable & Plug it Back After 15 Seconds)

- Now go to the Router Setup Page & Check the Internet Status in the Top Right Corner It Would Be Connected.

- Try Going Online... :)

Hi Jason

To get the connection back all you need to do is just connect the modem to the router to the yello port & computer to any gray port on the router.
& unplugg the power from the router first & then from the cable modem. Wait 30sec & plug the power to the cable modem first & then once the modem is on completly plug the power to the belkin router.
The light will turn green & start working.

This is an intermittent connection.
To avoid this happening over & over kindly update the firmware in the router.
you can login to the belkin.com/support web site to download & know the procedures to update the firmware in the router.

Thanks

I can not log in my router home page

1. Connect only a comptuer to the router using a ethernet cable to any one of the gray port on the router.

2. In the computer connected to the router, Click on start - > Run / Start scarch -> [type] CMD & hit enter.

3. In the black screen [Command prompt] type Start http://192.168.2.1 & press enter.

4. If still does not work.

5. In the black screen [Command prompt] type ipconfig & check what it the IP address under ethernet adapter local area connection,

6. It should be 192.18.2.x where x is a value from 2 to 254 & the default gateway should be 192.168.2.1.

7. If you get 169.254.xx.xx or any other numbers then try unpluggin the power from the router & pluggin the power back in after 30 sec.

8. Still the same numbers try pushing on the reset button at the rear of the router using a paper clip or pin for 10sec & release it after 10 sec once again unplug the power from the router wait 30 sec & plug back after 30 sec.

9. Again try step 3.

Thanks
