I changed monitors and it works??? What worked. Did the brightness appear? Is the monitor now functioning properly?

If not, monitors can have increase brightness by using the menu settings. The settings can be accessed by the buttons that are usually below the monitor screen on the front under panel. Adjust the brightness from there.

If that fails then change the monitor. That you are suggesting that the backlight is out, I am assuming that you have a flatpanel monitor and not a CRT. Either can be configured the same way using the menu buttons; however, the back light issues are different in the two types of monitor.

Good Luck

There are brightness and contrast settings on all monitors. If you find that these are set to the maximum then :-
You could have a faulty inverter board or faulty CCFL lamp.

Dim monitor issu. I want it bright always.

it could be age-related but there is also a power setting in the OS. Alternately you can check also the monitor OSD and see if there is a setting for adaptive brightness enabled

It has completely died, no power, no lights nothing!

Hi Avril
If your LCD TV or monitor has stopped working, or is displaying one of the following symptoms, then it's a candidate for some new capacitors
- Flickering screen
- Screen image disappears after several seconds
- Dim screen
- Slow start
- Power LED on, but no picture
- Unusual colors and/or lines
The primary cause of LCD TV and monitor failure is caused by faulty capacitors. You can examine the capacitors in your LCD TV or monitor and actually see if they are bad.
If they appear bulged on top, then they need to be replaced.
New capacitors will solve a host of problems in LCD monitors and TV's and will extend the life of your monitor or TV by several years.
Check the cables, connectors and connections.
If your TV, flatscreen, or monitor is more than 5 years old it is more like to have suffered a component failure.
Take it to a repair shop.

Circuit board.Monitor won't work.

you never said how connected, ?
  1. HDMI
  2. DVI
  3. or VGA with adaptor. (try them all? ) or new cable?
  4. or S-video ?
on the bottom rear right are 4 input ports, are all 4 dead?

power pack bad, (has none, its on the main PCB) seen below.
circuit board PCB bad. sure, or its 1kv CCFL power supply.
the first thing to consider, is, how old it is and what technology it uses for the back lamps. (LED new,. or old CCFL short lived tubes)
on your HP Lp2475w support page I read your spec,
it says 40k hour back lamps, in tech that mean CCFL. (the go dim at 40k hours life)
so step one is using a flash light, on the front glass.
connect PC, turn on PC, make PC work or go to PC bios
then monitor on, and use flashlight on the fact of the LCD
see DATA? yes, CCFL are dead, (them or there power supplies 1kv)
your monitor is old, 2010 ended the era of CCFL
yours is 2008 year, old.

mr, PCB, printed circuit board. power, no sure about data board.
light reading, read this and the 10second rule...(no sync)

the users guide

if the monitor has sync inputs, then it does show, no sync on screen
and if the sync is good, the Menu button works. put it inside
the 10sec rule can help see it,
also see if screen is dim as all old CCFL do, turn up the brightness to max , use dark room if too dim.
the OSD screens must work or do this.

Adjusting contrast and/or brightness

As a rule of thumb all settings should be done with your Monitor controls usually on the front or sometimes unerneath the front of your Monitor.

If you have a add on Card or one buildt into your motherboard the settings will be in the proterties or control section but first set the monitor controls.

You can also change settings in the control panel by clicking on the Display Icon. This should also tell you what kind of Card you have installed to run the Monitor.

I have a LCD Monitor only about 10 months old and the picture is getting dark. I have maxed out the Monitor Controls and the NIVIDIA card Controls. A new Monitor is in my future. This is my second LCD Monitor in two years. Not good for the new LCD/s since I have old Monitors around 20 years old that still work great.

Hope this helps.

17" flat screen upper half is dark until "thumped"!

The inverter board that controls the lighting on the screen is dying. since its a 5 year old monitor and only a 17 inch. the cost to repair is greater than the cost of buying a new one. unless you know how to replace the part yourself. I think its best to just buy a new monitor

Notebook monitor not working

Turn out the room lights and see if have a correct, but real dim, display. If you do, then you have a bad inverter or back light. If you don't, then you have a loose LCD cable connector, bad LCD cable or bad CD.

Monitor gone dull

there is a key on the keyboard which controls brightness. on mine it is the second key on the right, of the bottom row. it has a small sun on it. Press this key at the same time as the function key (on mine, bottom row, second from the left, blue key marked Fn) - and the monitor will brighten up.
