If your getting the error thru windows update just google windows updates and download sp1 thru 3 also try using spybot S-D lava soft is ok but spybot does a better job or just get spyware terminator it does both spyware and virus protection....

Tip

AD-Aware SE antispy autoupdater and LSP Plugin

I still use this excellent free Ad-bot removal software from Lavasoft with the separate LSP Plugin. The auto-update function within the program doesn't work with either the normal or proxy settings...

76d700b.jpg

So I wrote my own download all you need HERE its a self-exe RAR file and has all you need plus the LSP Explorer Plug for backing up IE7

The latest available defintion files is from March 2009 2009SE1R345.30.03.2009.defs takes about 10 mins to download when you restart AdAware you will see the updated files

af5bab1.jpg

I use the LSP Plugin to backup the registry settings with respect to WinSock2 and in the system32 folder for IE this is a best way to do this you need to install the main program in order use this plugin then the correct keys will be saved if your Winsock ever becomes corrupted.

48430b1.jpg

Don't : download the IE Guard from HERE from Lavasoft it only works on the later versions of Ad-Aware

Note : this will conflict with McAfee Security Centre installed with the ISP so if you want to use Ad-Aware and have SKY don't bother.

My smart scan has been taking in excess of 3 hours to complete. This is just too darn long.

I have used Ad-aware for quite some time now. It is another Lavasoft product and has what is probably the same Smart scan. The link below will take you to Download. com where there is a free, "clean" download of the software. Scroll down to the list of software and take the first one on the list. It has approximately 365 million downloads. Click on "download now" at the right and follow the instructions. It has a nice feature that can be set to run the scan on a schedule. It's very convenient to be able to run it in middle of the night or while your away.

Computer dont turn off correctly

1. Go to My Computer > Right Click on C: (the drive in which you have your OS) > Properties > Tools Tab> Error Checking. Mark both the options and click Start.

A message might appear asking you if you want to scan it when computer restarts. Click Yes. And Restart your computer.

If still the problem exists, then try the following.

2. Try scanning with Ad-Aware. If there are any malicious files due to which this problem exists then they will be removed.

Here is from where you can download Ad-Aware:

I brought ca anti-virus plus anti-spyware 2008 and the product don't work it won't allow me to register my software thet keep asking me for a licenes key which i don't have it's also asking me to buy...

This is only an idea, but if you aren't on dial-up you can download 2 very good FREE programs. Go to download.com and enter AVG Free into search, Download the file, it's about 46MB. Save it to your temp folder (right click Start/explore/ (C) / Windows / Temp make a new folder in Temp called "software' or something. Then in download.com search for ad-aware free (it's by lavasoft) Save also to (C)/windows/temp/software.

Now install. When installing AVG select advanced instead of standard when you get to the box that gives the choice, when you get to where it confirms if you want to download and install the free AVG toolbar, untick (don't install it) Select USE FREE when you get to the registration box, and also don't register your details (unless you want emails from them)
Update it but don't run a scan yet.

Ad-aware by Lavasoft. Install it. Make sure the correct plug in's are ticked or not re what email software you use when you get to that box. Don't register this one either.

When they are both installed go to the desktop, you will have two shortcut icons for Ad-aware, keep the one that looks like a green world and delete the one that looks like a sheild with a beetle on it.

Open Lavasoft and Update it.
Open AVG and Update it.

Restart your computer in Safe mode (usually by pressing F8 at startup) Run a Full Scan from Ad-aware. Select and delete Critical and Privacy Spyware when scan completes.

Run an AVG full computer scan. Delete or remove anthing found.

Restart in normal Windows. From now on keep them updated and run at the minimum weekly scans (Smart Scans in Ad-aware) These two programs will cover virus and spyware very well, you can delete or disable anything else.

Hope this helps, I have used these two free products for over 5 years with no problems. Make sure your Microsoft Updates are current.

No mouse cursor visible on monitor

Could be spyware, virus or a failing hard drive.

Download Ad-Aware® SE Personal Edition, a free program that you can download at:

http://www.lavasoftusa.com/support/download/

Check for updates before running program. Then follow the directions here to do a full scan:

The following explains how to set Ad-aware's settings to perform a "Full Scan."

In Ad-aware click the Gear to go to the Settings area.

The following items should be on a green check, not on a red X.

Under the Scanning button:

Scan within archives

Under Memory & Registry, Check EVERYTHING

In Check Drives & Folders, make sure all of your hard drives are selected

Under the Advanced button, check ALL under Log detail level (this makes it easier for visitors to the Lavasoft Support Forums to see what options you have selected should you require assistance.)

Under the Tweak button...

Some of these may not be an available option, depending on your version of Ad-aware and your version of Windows. Do not be concerned if you cannot select a certain item.

In Scanning Engine:

Unload recognized processes during scanning

Include info about ignored objects in logfile, if detected in scan

Include basic Ad-aware settings in logfile

Include additional Ad-aware settings in logfile

Include used command line parameters in logfile

In Cleaning Engine:

XP/2000: Allow unloading explorer to unload shell extensions prior to deletion

Let Windows remove files in use at next reboot

UNCHECK: Automatically try to unregister objects prior to deletion

Click Proceed to save these settings. When you would like to perform a "Full Scan," switch the scan mode from SmartScan to Custom.

After running Ad-aware, you must reboot your computer. It may be necessary to run Ad-aware two or three times if you have a lot of spyware, rebooting each time in between.

Where it says,"In Ad-aware click the Gear to go to the Settings area", on the top of the Ad-aware window, there are 5 symbols, click on the one that looks like a gear.

Go to: http://sarc.com/ Scroll down and click on,"Free Online Virus and Security Check" Write down exactly anything it finds, then return to: http://sarc.com/ and do a search for what was found. Symantec usually has a removal tool and/or directions for removing. manually.

Regarding the Hard drive, check out what PCWorld offers at:

http://www.pcworld.com/howto/article/0,aid,105869,00.asp

Hope this helps!
