Coolpix L3 Digital Camera Lens Error Problem

This has happened to me before but it hasn't been this severe. I don't know where else to turn. I'm 13 years old and my friend over uses it when he comes over. I also noticed that the lens INSIDE the chrome circular thingy is a bit pushed in on the left side.

Lens error

You must send camera in to be repaired.

If you don't have a warranty it will cost $100.

I have a camera and when I turn it on it says "lens error.

the lens is a complicated structure within the camera , built up of several moving parts, if these do not behave as expected you get this error, usually this will require a "repair" if this camera is still within warranty it is a good idea to get it looked at under warranty

This is probably THE single most common failure among digital cameras. There's a halfway chance of fixing it yourself, described here:

See my posts on this problem. By forcing the lens with you fingers into the camera, it may put it on track. This can damage the camera even further, but may be worth a try. You can try to pull it out when starting, and then pushing in on turning it off.
Worth a try, may work.

Focus error

The lens is having a problem in the track. That can be similar and possibly the same as lens error. that could be caused by dirt or sand inside the camera. What happens is that the dirt or sand can get on the track which has oil or other lubricant and will cause problems with focus and other lens errors.

See my posts on these problems.

You may try to pull the lens as it starts and then push it as you turn it off.
This may also cause more damage, but can be worth a try.
