I'm assuming you're using the network switch to share an internet connection between the two computers. Connect the cable from the internet source (probably cable or dsl modem) to the WAN port on the switch, then connect each of the computers to the numbered ports on the switch. You shouldn't have to change any settings on the switch since it's not wireless. Open the control panel from the start menu, then open network connections, then click on "set up a small home or office network
" and the computer will walk you through setting up your network, and give you the option to record a disk that you can use to automatically set up the other computer.

Connect the router to the switch using any port-it does not matter which port you use. Connect each computer to any port on the switch-it matters not. The router will assign IP address to the computer as they are added.

DONE!!!

Good Luck

I cant get wifi and internet on my computer at the same time

Hi. Let's hava look at what you are doing.

I'm guessing that you have a cable modem a dlink router with wifi and a computer, right?
If you connect the cable modem to the computer you have internet. You shouild also have wfi but the wifi will not give you internet because it is disconnected from the modem.
The Dlink has to be connected to the modem but it will also need to be configured. To *** that you will need help from your cable company.
The connections should be. Modem connected to the outside world. Dlink connected to the Modem. Computer connected to the Dlink by either wifi or Ethernet.

1008d wanting to know what to plug in

Hi,

The D-Link DES-1008d is an unmanaged switch that does not need any configuration to work. You just need to plug in your device (PC/Xbox/Laptop) into one of the ports of the switch, using an ethernet patch cord, and it would start communicating with it. I think your xbox 360 already includes a patch cable in the box. You also need to connect the 1008d to your DSL/Cable/whatever modem, using a similar ethernet patch cord, in order to get online.

This is all that you need to do as far as your 1008d is concerned.

No need to install the dlink on the imac. All you need to do is connect the modem first the dlink. (Modem connected to Internet or WAN port of the dlink). Now if they are connected, your imac should be plugged in to port 1 of dlink, and your PC to port 2. That should do it.

On which port of the D-link router did you plug the WRT160N router?

Do this setup.

Disconnect the WRT160N from D-link.

Connect a computer to port 1 of the WRT160N. Access the setup page by typing 192.168.1.1 on the address bar. you may need to type in the username and password for WRT160N. on the setup page Change the LAN IP address from 192.168.1.1 to 192.168.2.1. save the settings.

Connect a cable from port 1,2,3 or 4 of the D-link router to the Internet port of the WRT160N. turn off everything then turn them on starting from cable modem>D-link >WRT160N then computer.

You should be able to access the internet.
