Question about Toshiba Satellite A35-S159 Notebook

1 Answer

Toshiba A35 S159

When running my computer with the ac adapter plugged into the wall. After 45 minutes the battery capacity meter in my system tray shows battery remaining 99% instead of full power. I am assuming this means its running off the battery not the ac adapter. Or the battery is not charging. I have jiggled the ac adapter wires on the adapter and on the outside of the computer where it attaches, and nothing changes.

On some occasions it has gone down to 50% (while the ac adapter is plugged in) and I shut off and search for an outlet that will get it charging again.

Is this a computer problem with the ac adapter, or the dc jack or a electrical outlet problem?

Any help will be appreciated.

What about the fact that if you are running on AC adapter you should be running full power. Then all of a sudden it switches to the battery while the ac adapter is still plugged into the wall...... meaning we are not trying to use the battery.....not it say
its on battery and its 99% charged and begins to run out until it shuts down even though its plugged into the wall......

Does that have to do with the battery being bad...shouldn't it just run on AC power?

You forgot the most important item in the whole equation the battery. How long will the computer stay on with the battery? One quick fix,try using a toothbruch to clean the contact on the battery and on the computer. This might work.I think the computer is fine. The battery might be bad,

Toshiba Satellite A35 S159 AC PROBLEM Can a laptop run just on the ac without the battery? I just watched a video on youtube and the guy said if you want to save your battery you can take it out and run on...

Yet you need to set up what is called a hardware profile so that you can use the Laptop on either AC power only or on AC Power and Battery. Although it is normally used for docking it can still be used for the battery.

One profile for the office where the laptop is docked and the network adapter enabled, and a second profile can be created for use when you are working away from the office that disables the network adapter but enables the modem.

To set up hardware profiles in XP, complete the following steps:

  1. On the desktop, right click the My Computer icon and select Properties.
  2. From the Hardware tab, click the Hardware Profile button.
  3. Under the list of available hardware profile, select Docked Profile or Undocked Profile and click Copy.
  4. Type in a new name for the profile and Click OK.
  5. Select the new profile and click Properties. Select the check box beside This is a portable computer. Select the docking state for the profile. Click the option to Always include this profile when Windows starts. Click OK.
  6. You can now use Device Manager to enable and disable devices for a hardware profile.

Some people do say that if you totally discharge a rechargeable battery and then fully recharge it you will get a greater AmpHour from it but this will be negligible as all batteries have a standard number of Amps that it will deliver built into it, it may fall with age. Although rechargeable batteries don't just fail like normal dry cells they tend to fail over a period of time and fool us a bit.

LOL

Wow, I can't believe they removed it from their support page. bummer.

You can try a simple Windows Update.

It should detect the missing drivers.

Let me know if it doesn't.

Sounds like your fan may be clogged up. I suggest you consult the documentation on how to remove the laptop cover and then clean the fan out. You will be surprised at all the crap in it.

Good luck.

Toshiba A35-S159 Recovery and Applications/Drivers DVD

If what you really need is the recovery disk, you can call Toshiba for it but if you only need the drivers, you can go to support.toshiba.com or pcsupport.toshiba.com. For the graphics driver, if you know that you have intel chipsets, you can go to intel.com/support/chipsets  -  there please select your chipset family then click on the "download" under graphics for your
specific chipset then please select your operating system. Please restart your laptop after the download
and see if it works. Thank you.
