How do I stretch the secondary drive spring from the idler pulley to the deck bracket. When the belts are in place, the spring is too strong to stretch.

from your photo, the belt has not been installed correctly as you have one pulley not doing anything

go to a service dealer and get a diagram for the belt installation and you will find that the spring will install easily

Why does my water pump belt on my 2001 Suzuki Grand Vitara keep shredding

You may have a pulley out of alignment or a bearing that is bad on one device or the idler or tensioner pulley.

Replace serpentine belt

USA cars. only.
how to?
did you mean HOW to? (where, what ,when ,how , why, etc)

which engine, and which of 2 belts.?
the cam belt? G16 engine.? nah.
or the accessories belts.? I'll guess, Accessory drive belts.
guess 2:
my guess, is H25/7 V6 engine? or bigger V6. same family
"in the factory service manual on all suzuki's it is"
this is covered in the FSM book by suzuki, or or
suzuki pit stop plug, for $4
this has been asked now on fixya 100s of times and answered more.

the J27 engine, as fitted on USA cars (this is a USA forum,so...)
has 2 belts. one for ALT/pump
with a slotted, adjustable idle tension pulley (no springs)
one for P/S - A/C side.
it has a :
To adjust P/S and A/C belt tension, turn tension pulley using hexagon wrench.

see here for a clear view on H25

on the newer cars the alternator method changed,
and is more like the A/C side.

see arrow, my 04 dont have that. part.
on my 04 the alternator moves. (tilts) look first to see what YOU have. The G16 engines, is more tricky, but you have the V6 i think.
there are only 3 types, of tension systems.
1: TILT (alt, or P/S)
2: like below, with slot ,see slot? no springs here
3: spring loaded, idler, with allen key hole for release. J20) style.
so now you know what is there,
so ill just do above belt. (how to replace and tension)
  1. loosen both 12mm bolts at idler.
  2. the belt goes slack
  3. remove belt
  4. put on new
  5. set tension to 10mm deflection at 22lbs force mid span.
  6. lock screws down .
  7. done.
that covers no spring, idler.
the link above shows, how to do the spring drive type, with a hex 10mm key "allen"

Just need this for refitting belts as a pulley came off alternater plus others broke.Have four belts to fit, need to know which go where, thanks.

hey, thank you for choosing 1st welcome! why did the pulley come off the altenator? you need to check for bad pulleys, altenator, harmonic balancer, power steering, water pump.hand check all these for wobbly pulleys 1st before you waste alot of time replacing one when it's really another pulley that's the problem.check the tensioner pulley also. the pulley diagram can be found in the book for around $20.00 at autozone auto parts ao advance auto for about $20.00 this is a detailed book including engine replacement.that's how far and indepth the book will take you.if you plan on keeping the car,i do suggest that you purchase the book from them.or else, you can research this web-site, for a complete auto manual online.thank you for choosing

The belt has come off the dryer and I can't figure out the configuration to put it back on, therefore the dryer wont turn

Some of the belts are counterintuitive to reinstall. although there are several different styles there are usually four - five components: Drum, belt, motor pulley and the spring pulley (sometimes there is a also a stationary pulley). Please double check but a lot of dryers have a diagram inside the dryer housing. If not, place the belt around the drum then the stationary pulley (if equipped) then the motor pulley and finally the spring pulley. Try to support the drum loosely if the spring pulley gives you a problem, on some models the motor mounts are adjustable, which you can use to reduce the strain. (You can always adjust it after the drum and pullies are secure) Hope this helps. Good Luck!

Need to to how to change or tighten the belt

There is no tightening unless your Idler pulley spring is weak. There is constant pressure on the belt from this spring. In most cases the belts stretch and if you put on a new belt and still have problems; you will need the Idler pulley assembly.

You should see a label under the hood of your car. This will have the belt routing. There is a socket hole in the Idler pulley to reverse the spring tension and slide the old belt off. You use a rachet or breaker bar in the socket hole to move the Idler pulley. Then repeat the process and put the new belt on.

Nothing is adjustable. Belts are usually good for 40000 miles.

Idler spring came off when belt broke, not sure correct placement for spring and idler pulley

Takes patients but can be done. First place idler arm in position then connect spring. Try and hold firmly while you place belt through pulley and fold around motor shaft. If installed right ,the pulley will maintain a constant pressure on the belt.

Blade belt diagram for John Deere LX178 Riding

Remember the belt rule, V of the belt goes in V pulleys.Flat pulleys that are stationary or move get the back of the belt. You can figure it out. Its not rocket science. Remember at some point there has to be a tensioner, usually gets the back of the belt if its a flat pulley. U may have to remove the spring and then reattach the spring after the belt is routed.

1983 GMC G2500 Alternator Belt Diagram

REMOVAL & INSTALLATION Fig. 1: A gauge is recommended, but you can check belt tension with thumb pressure 89771g18.gif
Fig. 2: Loosen the component's mounting and adjusting bolts slightly to remove or adjust the belt(s) 89771g19.gif
Fig. 3: Push the component toward the engine and slip off the belt 89771g21.gif
Fig. 4: Slip the new belt over the pulley 89771g22.gif
Fig. 5: Pull outward on the component and tighten the mounting bolts 89771g23.gif
Fig. 6: Accessory mountings found on 6.2L diesel engines 89771g24.gif
  1. Loosen the driven accessory's pivot and mounting bolts.
  2. Move the accessory toward or away from the engine until the tension is correct. You can use a wooden hammer handle, or broomstick, as a lever, but do not use anything metallic, such as a prybar.
  3. Tighten the bolts and recheck the tension. If new belts have been installed, run the engine for a few minutes, then recheck and readjust as necessary. It is better to have belts too loose than too tight, because overtight belts will lead to bearing failure, particularly in the water pump and alternator. However, loose belts place an extremely high impact load on the driven component due to the whipping action of the belt.
