Restore my Acer 5610Z to its original state

I used the Windows upgrade CD to install a clean copy of Windows Home Premium, because the system was not responding as it should. That wiped out all the Acer software, and my drivers. My flash drive doesn't work, nor my camera and the keyboard is making typing interesting.

In the past I've used Alt F10 to recover the system. That doesn't work now. I tried the fix posted under this thread. That didn't work. The results are posted in the thread. I ordered the recovery CDs from Acer. They arrived last Friday, with no instructions. I can view the file contents but dont' know how to start the recovery process since the Acer eRecovery program isn't accessible.

I tried downloading drivers from Acer US. There is no keyboard driver. I also don't know the type camera installed. Acer responded to my email letting me know the keyboard driver would be on the Recovery CDs.

Apparently I have everything I need, I just don't know how to make it work. There is not a credible computer repair shop in this area. My computer is useable (thank goodness, since I'm recovering from surgery & can't use my desktop system).

Let me know if you require additional information. I look forward to working with you.

THANK YOU everyone who responded to my post. This is a great service and the cost is super reasonable. Acer US has been very good at responding to my requests too. Changing the order of the boot bios was all that was required to get the CDs to work. My system is now running as it should, all the devices are working. GREAT WORK EVERYONE!

Ok well first you have to put the cd that says system rec in the drive turn the computer off the on again the computer will ask if you would like to boot from cd hit any key this will start the download process then just follow the instructions as they are asked if the computer does not start from cd try another cd if more than one was given to you if the computer does not ask to boot from vd then you might have to change some settings in the bios so the computer sees the cd rom first then hdd this is an easy process ill let you know how to if you need to do this let me know k

I could not upgrade neither windows XP, Windows 7 of this Product Model: GT5662. Would you assits? Thanks.

Hello kelvinvu, according to the information that I gathered from this computer model, it has Windows Vista 32 bit home premium installed on it. Windows XP is an older operating system so you can't "upgrade" to it. You could however install a fresh copy (more likely completely erasing all your previous information on vista and data files) or you could upgrade to Windows 7. Since you are using "Windows Vista 32 bit home premium", you have to upgrade to "Windows 7 32 bit home premium" or better. So if you were trying to "upgrade" to Windows 7 Home Basic, it will not allow that since it considers that a downgrade in the Operating System. You should actually be able to pop in the Windows 7 Home Premium CD while vista is running and start the upgrade process pretty painlessly that way. Just access the CD and walk through the menus for upgrading Vista to Windows 7. As a reminder, you must use the 32 bit discs. If you try and use the 64 bit discs (a different operating system as far as windows is concerned) you will have to go through the same process of installing a new version of windows (not upgrade). I hope this has solved your specific problem kelvinvu, have a great day!

My Acer aspire x3200 Home Premium will not let me upgrade to windows 7 home premium.Installation failed.

Sometimes you're better off to uninstall the old OS, and then install the upgrade. If you have files to save, store them on removable media, then format the drive, then install the upgrade. During the process, it will ask for the VISTA product key, and the windows 7 product key

I want to take my acer 3690 back to when i bought it

There is no way to roll back from Vista to XP. If you still have an XP CD Key you can re-install using a windows disk of the same type using your code. All the drivers should be downloaded first to a CD from the manufacturers web site. Plus any data you would like to keep.

Restore Hardrive to Factory Settings, Missing Hidden Partition

Yes Claudia you are right. When you wiped the hard drive you deleted the partition that contained the systen restore (factory restore). You will have to purchase a new copy of Vista. It will not contain all of the other programs that came with your computer originally.
Before you installed Windows 7 it clearly states that you have to back up your system before you install it on your hard drive.
Why didn,t you keeep windows 7, if I may ask? If you made a copy of it (which you had to do when you insatlled it) reinstall it and use it. Microsoft will let you purchase it for $50.00, which is a lot less that what it will cost you to purcase Vista Home Premium.

The restore disk should be available from Acer Suppport here https://secure.tx.acer.com/RCDB/Main.aspx?brand=acer if they no longer support it then you should be able to get it from restoredisks.com

Can't clean install.

If you have a system that requires the manufacturer's proprietary device drivers, you will most likely have to return the system to it's original configuration using the restore CD, and then upgrade. However, there's no guarantee Vista will even be able to use the device drivers of the original system configuration. After you restore your system, check the manufacturer's web site for new Vista drivers. Unfortunately, Vista drivers for older systems may not be available at all.

Error -need to re-install the operating system

Insert your Windows Vista Basic CD into the CD ROM drive and restart your computer.

It will autoboot from the CD and you can reinstall Vista Basic.

Should you have further problems don't hesitate to give more details.
