Thanks, I will try these when I get home. Had read that post before, but overlooked the rotation by hand segment. I am in agreement with you, clutch/bearings are my problem.

    dh1200s,
got off work early, at house with washer. Does not turn CCW, so i'm guessing clutch/bearings are the problem, thanks again

Hello rockhead255 ,

I'm an owner like you and will try to help.

Error code 10 states Unbalance or cabinet hit detected during final spin, which prevented the spinner from exceeding 500 rpm

Did you notice if you took some large tub swings as the washer tried to spin up?

I suspect a Clutch malfunction. Pump the water out of the tub with the Board Output Test with the drain pump in service mode. With the wash tub empty open the lid and see if you can rotate the wash basket CCW with one finger. You mentioned “”Tub does not turn by hand””. Is that in the CCW direction?

You should be able to rotate the wash basket with your pinky finger with very little force. The wash basket will not rotate CW. What amount of rotational resistance do you detect in the CCW direction? With the error 10 reported I would drop the clutch out of the machine per my step by step procedure at this post. Try the One-Way roller clutch bearing clean up and re-lube as I discuss in that post and see if you can restore the machine to normal Spin operation. Once you drop the clutch out of the machine we will have a better feel for the issue.

You can try the TDS check in the SM but I feel it is a Clutch issue at this point of troubleshooting. Good troubleshooting using the machines diag code listing.

Post back if you havd need additional questions or help.

    Hey rockhead255,

Good for you, my FAV6800AW is a series 16 also first two digits of your S/N is the machine Series Number. Your Clutch Pulley assembly will not use the upper One-Way Roller Clutch bearing as mine. A few parts are series sensitive.

As I state in my step by step post use this Clothes Washer Clutch - 25001169 why pay more. I feel it can be used in all series of the FAV6800AW or FAV9800AW machines.

I like AZ they ship fast and give you a price point reference but order from who you feel will meet your needs. You took a $1K machine with poor design issues and squeezed a little more life out of it. YOU’RE THE MAN!

Watch out for a Tub Seal leak, did you see much evedience of a seal leak from the Clutch inspection?

Also watch out for corrosion issues with that Left Hand Lid Lock OP,OD,FL error codes. I removed the Right Hand Lid Lock and threw it away. Tape up the plug end and for wire chaffing protection when you start in with those errors codes. You only need the Left Lid Lock for the machine to work as designed. It makes troubleshooting easier to keep it simple.

Did I make a mistake on the 3/8” clutch pulley bolt on direction of rotation for removal? I may have. It's a tight work area for sure, and at 62 it's getting a bit harder to do this DIY stuff. I did not want to spend $300 + for something I can take on.

Take care and good luck…. This machine is very repairable just watch ebay for used parts (except clutch) :).

I had a Maytag Neptune top load washer that I bought in 2004-paid 1000.00 for it. It would not advance to the drain/spin mode from wash. I was told that it would need a new circuit board to the tune of 200.00 plus labor. I have heard of so many problems with the Neptunes that I am just disposing of it. Pretty sad to spend that kind of money and have it last 6 years. I bought a new Whirlpool Cabrio and hope this one will last!!! if anyone else has had this problem, please respond!

Makes a grinding noise and will not complete a cycle it stays on all night unless i turn it off.

I need a bit more info to help.

If you can confirm the model number to make sure we are discussing a FAV6800A or FAV9800A?

If we are can you put the machine in a Spin Only cycle and tell me the machine will complete the cycle with a wet load. If it doesn't complete the Spin Only cycle is there any banging of the wash tub in spin cycle? Is there any error code to Console LED (FAV6800A) or LCD (FAV9800A)?
If you want to investigate further I would suggest getting the FAV6800A/FAV9800A Service Manual.

Google this ""Neptune TL Washer FAV6800AWW""

This is a sticky for the FAV6800A/FAV9800A washer DIY support. Go to the 5th post down in the Sticky and you will find a link for the Service Manual.

If you want to go further in troubleshooting and possibly a DIY fix just open a new thread in that DIY forum with Model number and Serial number. That info is found tag behind the console right back side as you face the machine console.

Neptune Washer Spin Cycle

If your FAV6800A or FAV9800A wash tub is banging around in Spin Cycle of the Wash Cycle and your Control Board signals a dC or uC error code to the console I feel you have a Clutch malfunction. I feel the TDS is working as designed with the unblance error code shut down.
See my Clutch Fix post for more info related to dC and uC unbalance errors with the FAV6800A and FAV9800A TL’s and the repair action…….Rich

If your machine is a FAV6800A to FAV9800A here is the Service Manual.
If it one of those machines I suspect a possible clutch malfunction.

The wash time continues to increase on every cycle. I have a Maytag Neptune TL Washer.

Thank you my machine model number. The reason I ask is so many folks post non FAV6800A/FAV9800A issues in this forum. This forum doesn’t ask for machine model number and serial number. Here we go.

Does your machine seem to take longer than normal to fill with water?

Does the machine increase the time during the Spin Cycle of the Wash Cycle?

Are there any error codes to the LED display such as dC or uC?

Do you want to work toward a DIY fix? If not maybe we can get a solid feel for the issue that will help you in the decision process to bring in a repair company or replace.

So I can better understand the issue can you start a Quick Wash cycle with Soil and Spin settings set to lowest setting and if you could place a couple of bath towels in the wash basket for a load.

I want to see if the machine will go thru the Wash, Rinse and Spin cycle within the 27 to 29 min time of a Quick Wash cycle. I want to see if the machine is increasing Washer Cycle time in the Spin Cycle of the Wash Cycle.

You should enter the Rinse Cycle at the 20 min mark on the LED display.

You should enter the Spin Cycle at the 10 min mark on the LED display.

Watch the cycle and see if you have similar times as I do. Let me know if the washer has any off balance issues as it enters into the Spin Cycle…..Rich

Maytag neptune tl makes grinding sound and stops at 33 minutes in normal mode and at 24 minutes in quick wash mode

Hello djlampl,

With the lowest spin cycle setting I enter spin cycle in Quick Wash around the 21 minute mark. But first question is do you hear the grinding noise with the tumblers rotating during the wash/agitate cycle?

If you start a spin only cycle do you hear the grinding noise?

Does the washer error code out with an error code to the display? Codes such as dC, uC, Lr?, I assume the machine type is a FAV6800AW is that correct?

Any additional info will help in troubleshooting…..Rich

Assuming the machine type is a FAV6800A/FAV9800A here are some handy links;

The Service Manual for reference. Sears Parts Direct for reference.

Maytag neptune tl displays LL and stops during the rinse cycle

Sorry chukenne,
Having not experienced this issue on my FAV6800AWW I missed this error code in the manual is that your machine type? Error code “LL” is documented in the troubleshooting part of the SM as Large Load detected. Does this happen with all wash load sizes? I would go into Service Mode and step thru and document Diag codes form page 17 of the SM and see if you find any recorded error conditions. I would be curious to see if error code block 16 indicates a fail condition. I'm thinking of a possible high motor torque condition detected that may have triggered the LL code just a WAG at this time. You may want to clear all error codes and start collecting from your next wash cycle but I would make a list of all codes before you clear them for reference of fail events of past wash cycles. I’m going to assume the LL code happened during a spin cycle. What caused you to drop the clutch out and re-lube/ Were you taking dc/UC errors in spin cycle? Rich
