It took me a long time to figure out how to program the wireless extender using the software/web software. The only reason I had to do it was because the home theater company guy gave up and my inlaws called me to help figure it out.

Here is what you need to know:

1. You must add the wireless extender as a device (I think that is the correct word).

2. Only when I did that did the on-screen software allow me to select the wireless extender from the drop-down menu on the remote control page. That's the page that shows the list of the remote controls you are replacing (tv, amp, sat, dvd, etc.). There is a drop-down menu next to each item. If you only have one choice in the drop-down menu, you have to do step #1 listed above.

3. So, I instructed my Harmony remote to use the "Harmony remote" to control the television. But to use the "Wireless extender" to control the satellite box (which is in the closet). I did this by by selecting "Wireless extender" from the drop-down menu on the right.

4. When everything is saved and you are ready to update your Harmony remote AND wireless extender by connecting both with separate USB wires to your computer (assuming you have two free USB ports), you may see an error message. At first, the computer screen told me to connect both devices to my PC at the same time. But I think there was an error, so I unplugged the Harmony remote and let it update my wireless extender first. You will know which is being updated by the message/image on the computer screen. You can have to try different combinations of connecting one and then the other or both at the same time to get everything to work. I forget exactly how it eventually worked. I may have logged out of the software and then signed back in.

5. Assuming you update your remote AND your wireless extender, you then need to plug the wireless extender into a power source near the devices behind the wall. Then the screen on your Harmony remote will tell you that you need to create an RF network. Basically, this part is similar to what happens when you connect a wireless mouse to the receptor thing and have to press the connect button on each device. Anyway, follow the instructions on the Harmony screen. One of the steps will be to press the connect button on the Wireless extender. A message should appear on the Harmony saying it worked. If so, close the closet door, take a deep breath and press Watch TV on your remote.

Good Luck

Logitech Harmony remote having trouble changing the channel

Harmony remotes use IR commands, so you will always have to have line of sight for it to work.

However, if you are using the RF extender, ensure that the device you are using to change channels is assigned to the extender, and that the extender is properly paired.

  1. Plug the RF Wireless Extender in AC power only
  2. Reset the RF Wireless Extender by holding down the `Connect` button on the RF Wireless Extender until the `Status` and `RF` lights start blinking back and forth. (This process takes longer than 60 seconds, and the `Connect` button will need to be held down for the entire time)

Harmony 890 Pro will not pair with Xbox360

The RF signal is on the XBOX is used for the controllers only.

When using the Harmony 890 with a 360, you will have to use it as an IR (infrared) device. That is the only way to use a remote with the 360. If you have an extra port on your RF extender, you can place the end on the remote senor on the 360 (located under the eject button).

I set these remotes up weekly, it is a product I recommend to people all the time!

But again, the only way to setup a remote with the 360, is to use the IR port as a standard IR remote. Since the controllers run off RF, the learn function will not work, unless you already have 360 remote control to use to do the learn function.

Hope that offers some insight. This information can also be verifies at Microsoft XBOX 360's FAQ page.

What is a ?????

The RF extender is a add-on device that communicates with the Harmony 1000 remote. You would actually hook up IR eyeballs to your equipment and then plug them into the RF extender. This allows you to have your equipment in a cabinet or closet and have the door shut. The Harmony 1000 sends RF signals to the RF extender and the RF extender sends that signal to the components. This way you don't have to point at the components to control their operation.

Hope this helps, if it did please indicate with vote.

Harmony 1000 not doesn't seem to be communicating with IR extende

The number 1 thing if you have any power issues, unplug power to the RF extender, wait 5 secs, then plug back in. Make sure that the eyeballs are still the right place on the components as well.

Hope this helps,

I just bought a Harmony wireless extender but cannot get it to work. Do I have to also purchase a Harmony remote control or cannot it be used with any standard remote?

I would suspect that it would need to be used along side a Harmony remote. Get one they are great, you will not be disappointed. TigerDirect has some refurbished Harmony 720s, that's the one I have, it's the best value.

Logitech harmony remote 1000 not operating CBus lighting

Is there an IR receiver (or if using the RF extender, IR eyeballs connected to device and the RF extender) that you are pointing at to control the CBus lighting? If not, there is no way to control it. The Harmony 1000 will only communicate with the RF extender through Zwave, so you can't communicate with other Zwave devices, like you can with the Harmony 890 for instance.

Hope this helps,
