Question about SanDisk Sansa c140 MP3 Player

After changing out the battery, i turned it on and

Sansa c140:
After changing out the battery, i turned it on and a screen comes up saying "no space for DB please delete more than 4.0mg" , then it has me select language, then pops up music screen that says NO SONG in song title slot. Can access all functions except playing MP3s

The database seems to be overloaded while rebuilding the files info and playlists.

When linked to the computer there are 2 different connection modes possible:

  • MSC mode seeing the player as a removable disk using Windows Explorer.
  • MTP mode seeing the Sansa player as a Media device using software like Windows Media Player.

This is the firmware update utility for Sanca c140 (c100 series) devices.

There is a howto.txt file included, follow the instructions.I am posting the instructions here for convenience.


1. Download the attached file and save it on the desktop.
(the player should not be attached to the computer at this point)
2. Double click the file to run it.
3. Accept the license agreement.
4. Remove the battery from the mp3 player.
5. Press and hold the center (select) button and connect it to the computer (keep holding the button, this is the firmware update mode).
6. If the New Hardware Wizard appears (now you can let go of the select button), do the following: (if asked, choose not to connect to the internet for updates), then choose to install the device automatically, then follow the prompts to finish the installation.
7. When the wizard comes up, or when the Update button becomes active (whichever happens first), you may release the select button.
8. Click the Update button, and then click OK to the message that comes up.
9. Wait until the upgrade finishes, then unplug the device.
10. Put the battery back in, and turn on the player.
11. Hopefully the update will be performed, then choose English for the language when prompted.
12. Check if the issue is resolved.

I am from India too ;)

Updating the firmware will return your device to factory setting, like new. It should work normally after that.

Problem with My SanDisk Sansa m230


try formatting your device then try to put mp3 files on it. check if it works. on your my computer right click you mp3 device ( it is usually a removable storage) then select format.

MP3 player says Need to delete tracks


All you need to do is delete a few of your songs off, 2 or 3 should be enough.

The sansa c140 1gb mp3 device displays a message "no space for DB please delete more than 4.0MB" when I start it. I tried to format using WinXP but it couldnt be formatted. I tried the firmware updater...


If you are trying to format the device thru Windows Media Player, try just thru My Computer. My Computer>Device Name, right click and select format. Otherwise you may need to change the mode on the device. Settings>Mode or USB. Please add to the question, if you need more help. Best of Luck.

hmm... try hooking it up to the pc, go to my computer find the mp3 click explore go to music and select it all and delete it then try again it might help

Hi Tootiez. Try this I hope it helps: Go to my computer double click. Right click on the Sansa drive and select format. I really hope it helps. I love Fergie too ;-)

It froze and deleted all of my songs! HELP!


Dear paige1340, I was surfing the web looking for help with my sandisk c140 and I came across this page. I just had a similar experience with my sandisk c140. Im sorry that this isnt a helpful email, but I was wondering if you figured out how to fix that problem. Then only difference between yours and mine is that mine are gone even when I check with it connected to my computer. I tried to format it but it did not change anything.
