Question about Canon Elura 100 Mini DV Digital Camcorder
I have a Canon Elura 100 that has been flawless up until now. It will not consistently playback or record to DV tape; the display shows horizontal wide stripes, as if the image is split into 10 bands, and every other band contains colored junk instead of a real picture.
The problem seems to come and go; sometimes ejecting and remounting the tape "fixes" the problem, but not for long.
The camera will still capture direct to firewire without tape, and capture to the SD card works as well. Output to composite is also clean.
This appears to be a tape feed or tape head problem; Canon's web site cites $157 plus tax for a repair. Is this perhaps a do-it-yourself repair I could attempt? Any thoughts? Is cleaning safe?
Hello people who face similar problems...
First confirm whether it is a problem with the head assembly/ dirty heads.
Do the symptoms appear only on the camcorder's internal TFT side display or is it visible on an external monitor (connect using the AV cable supplied) and the EVF(electronic view finder) also.
If it is visible on the EVF, TFT Side display and the external monitor then it is definately a case of Bad video heads or the tape guide requires to be aligned or calibrated
