It sounds like your battery will need to be replaced.
If the power save features are set for high proformance and the battery is low and will not hold a correct charge, the unit will display those kind of actions.

Power button shutting off as soon as i try to switch on

Shut down
Unplug the power supply.
Remove the battery.
Insert power cord
Reboot with power cord but no battery

If it comes up, your battery is dead or weak
Replace the battery.
If you don't even get a flash, your power supply may be bad.
Get a new power suppy.
If it continues the restart cycling, then there's something wrong elsewhere.

You need to replace the battery as it has expired.
They are available by typing the battery model number or laptop model number into ebay or Google or indeed any search engine.
Hope that helps.

Looks like your battery is having a problem. Remove the battery and replace after a couple of hours. If problem remains replace the battery with another to test, if this works, then the problem is with the adapter unit. Get a new one.

My toshiba laptop computer has very short battery life when it is not plugged in. It will also shut off quite frequently at times and will take a while to restart (it will turn on but it takes a few tries...

How old is the battery? Most laptops and notebooks only have a 3 year battery life, and if you have run it down too far, or never ran it down at all, the life can be even shorter than that. With nicad they say it is best to use them until they stop working. But lithium batteries are best kept topped up I hear. If the batter is over 2 years old, time to replace I think.

This is most likely a hardware issue that coincidentally happened at the same time as you were restarting your computer. Something inside your computer could be having problems or overheating. I would guess power supply first. Try this though, as it just might need to be reset:

1) Unplug the computer power cord from the wall for 1 minute. Plug it back in to the wall. Try to start your computer. If this does not resolve your issue...try step 2.

2) You need to reset your BIOS. Refer to the follow link to accomplish this: Reset BIOS HowTo

Let me know how you make out.

I bought a new battery, laptop won't boot

The new battery is defective - It needs to be repacked. If you're still close enough to date or purchase(even for an ebay purchase), you should be able to do a swap.

Battery not charging...

My impression is that you might have a defective cord if you still have your old adapter and has the same power specification try this first.

If the battery is hot and does not charge you might have a defective battery . Better have it checked at the service center before buying a brand new battery
