I have a dell 3000 dimension desk top computer. The message I get after tapping the F12 key is as follows. Key board failure. Type password and press enter to leave password security enabled next line

The motherboard BIOS is activated when you press the F12 Key and can be locked via a password that is different from your pc user account. There is only one way to reset this because the BIOS is a chip on the motherboard. You have to reset the password using a jumper on the motherboard that is marked with PSWD. This will also clear the CMOS which is Computer Memory on Startup which tells the computer the different changes from the original bios chip. so you may have to go in and set some settings in the bios to have everything back to operational.

Turn off and unplug the tower before opening it.

The password jumper's location on a Dell Dimension motherboard can be found by reviewing the Dimension User Guides.
For most Dell Dimension desktops, the steps to reset a BIOS password and clear all CMOS settings are:
  • Locate the 3-pin CMOS password reset jumper on the system board.
  • Remove the jumper plug from pins 1 and 2.
  • Place the jumper plug on pins 2 and 3 and wait approximately 5 seconds.
  • Replace the jumper plug on pins 1 and 2.
Now replace the panel and plug unit back in. You should be able to enter the bios without a password.

Bios password reset cmos

Ok so reset the Bios Password? Ok well open the computer up and remove the Cmos Battery from the motherboard ....make sure to have computer unplugged and use static protection also there maybe a jumper setting to clear the cmos so check for this jumper usually in the same area as the battery after removing the battery or using the jumper to clear the cmos all you got to do is return the battery and or jumper to the original placement and your done ... just plug the computer back in and its reset.... Good luck

I have a dimension 2400. the current processor is a pentium 4 2.2 can i swap the processor with a intel core duo ??

After checking the specs of this here : http://support.dell.com/support/edocs/systems/dim2400/en/sm_en/specs.htm

i can confirm that a intel core duo would not be supported without changing the motherboard, and probably the memory too.

Need cmos jumper location on Dell Dimension 8200 to bypass bios password

From what I can gather, you just need to locate the jumper labeled PSWD and remove it. Turn computer back on, then back off. Replace jumper pin and turn computer back on. That should do it. Removing the jumper disables password. Turning on computer resets it. Replacing jumper re-enables password capability.

System password error

This password thats its asking for is upon first boot I assume before windows even trys to load. If thats the case theres a jumper on the motherboard that lets you reset the bios/cmos killing out the password and setting it back to factory stardards. You will have to goto dell.com and hit up there support section for a manual on were exactly its located but this will fix your password issue.

Dell Dimension 9100 - Motherboard & Compatible CPUs

Intel Pentium 4 Socket-T (LGA775) with Hyper-Threading or Dual-Core support, cache 1MB or 2Mb for 9100, or just 2Mb cache for 9150. I know of some of these machines having pentium D installed but I do not believe a Core 2 Duo is an option, whereas Dual-Core is. Good Luck!
