My Heritage II just lost power in the middle of vacuuming. The switch will turn on but no power.??? What is wrong?

It could be the switch that has become defective (the 'feel' of the switch may be different, but needs to be checked with a meter). Another possibility is that the cord has developed a loose connection at or near the power plug. Turn the switch on and wiggle/push the cord near the plug. An intermittent connection is indicated by the motor turning on and off. If so, cut the plug from the cord (they are usually a molded device that can't be serviced) and install a replacement plug from a hardware store or home center. If the switch is determined to be bad, order a new one from an appliance parts store or vacuum repair center. Good luck!

When i press the foot switch the machine does not switch on. Is there an internal fuse?

Don't think there is an internal fuse.
If you have replaced or tested the plug top fuse & that's ok, it may be that the foot switch needs replacing or a wire has come loose from it.

My kirby generation 3 wont come on

Make sure cord is not damaged. Check to see nothing is blocking hose or carpet nozzle(where beater brush is or brush roll). Plug unit in to a receptacle that you know has power going to it. (Lamp you know works when plugged into same. Using hose on front, make sure bag bottom completely attached to exhaust, the hose has a little arm like thing that will depress the safety switch on the front of the unit, and turn on using foot switch at the back of the unit. If these do not work, it could be one of two safety switches, dirt may have fouled or switch may need to be replaced. My kirby legend II started spitting out sparks near the foot plug. How can I fix it please? Thanks Candy

Depends where the sparks are spitting from.Unplug from the wall and try to detach the cord from the vac itself, where it plugs in. If there is a small hole burned in the side you will need to detach the entire cord from the handle where it clamps on and buy a genuine new one from a vac repair shop or Kirby dealer. Cords do wear out. Ther is a slim possibility you could have a bad switch below but generally the switch just dies , no sparking.
If the sparks were shooting out from inside the motor housing, you will likeley need a motor rebuild which should be done by a professional at vac shop.

No power from Kirby!!

Determine if the headlight works before anything else. If the light works but the motor won't you have power thru the vac and the problem is internal possibly motor brushes... or a loose wire on the inside connecting to the switch.
If the light goes out is likely a switch or cord problem. Switches on these vacs break more often than cords. What you see on top is the switch button, not the actually internal switch, however a switch does not normally fail while the vac is running, that sounds more like a loose connection or a bad cord.
So isolate the cord. Unplug it at both ends and plug lamp ( or test meter) into the cord into the cord and gently wiggle where the plug end meets the cord. If the lamp goes on and off the issue is the cord. You can buy a replacement specific to the Kirby series and plug it in yourself. If this s does not isolate the problem, take it to a service center. Kirby is very intricate inside.

No power

I'm not familiar with Kirby vacuums, but press your reset button a few times (if you have one). If that does not work, then it is most likely the switch. For a rough estimate of the switch or parts for your vacuum, please refer to Sears Parts website and have your model number ready.
