Question about Office Equipment & Supplies
This could be a few different things so lets try to knock them out one by one. First thing that should always be tried is thoroughly cleaning the drive. Please enter the following link into your browser for a step by step instructions:http://www.howtodothings.com/computers/a3631-how-to-clean-a-cd-rom-drive.htmlIf this still doesn't do it then it may be the actual cd rom or a faulty cable.I hope this helps shed some light on your problem. I understand these things can be very frustrating.

If the optical unit can read DVD, but not data CDs , or music CDs , then the lens is dirty or defective. In that case , try first using a cleaner disk. If that does not work, replace the drive unit.
If instead the problem is that computer can read data CD but does not play music, then reinstall Windows media player. See Windows Media Player 10
