As long as the memory is the same speed

Is it okay then to buy one 1GB stick, leave one of the 512MB sticks in, then have like 1.5GB memory? Would that work?

Page 43 of this manual seems to have the best documentation on memory for this machine. I saw a 2GB max in another document and this shows the biggest module as 1GB. I would believe that infers a pair.

Ive installed a 1gb memory chip in my compaq r3140us model and it boots into xp and intermittently freezes

You need to make sure you use two of the same 512 memory or the 1gb has to be the right one. This could be a real issue exp. if you use the wrong chip.

I have a laptop of compaq brand whose modle no is presario C700 in which intel celeron microprocessor is installed. 512 MB ram is installed i want to update it 4 improving its speed. i want to setup a...

I found the manual on the net that gives you instructions on replacing components if you're not sure how, it can be found here.

RAM upgrade
The Compaq Presario C700 uses DDR2 Laptop RAM as shown below.
slasher_x_11.jpg The motherboard of the Presario C700 has two RAM slots, one of them will be occupied by the 512MB RAM (running at 667MHz) module you have at present. This leaves one more that can accomodate a DDR2 667Mhz card of up to 1GB or you could get two 1GB DDR2 800MHz (the faster DDR2) cards and remove the 512 leaving you with a wopping 4GB of memory, that'll definately speed it up. Just remember the Presario C700 can only have up to 2GB of RAM so don't go higher than that or Windows will not boot for some reason.

Processor upgrade
The Presario C700 supports any Socket P, Core 2 Duo or Pentiun Dual Core chips. The fastest processor you can get is the Intel T8300 2.4GHz Core 2 Duo Processor with 3MB L2 cache and an 800MHz FSB

For a full list of compatible processors go to page 9 of the user manual found here.

I have a compaq presario cq60-215dx notebook pc, was wondering how do i go about upgrading the RAM?

I have checked the Compaq Presario CQ60-215DX Specification It Originally has 2GB Memory and supports upto 4GB RAM max. If you intend to upgrade the RAM, you can buy additional RAM and put them in you system. Here is the HP Guide to Replace RAM and How to Upgrade RAM Guide
Compaq Presario CQ60-215DX has two RAM slots for DDR-2 (533 or 667) Memory Modules. First you have to check that the RAM slot is available for additional RAM. I believe that it has two modules of 1GB each in both slots. So, you have to get two modules of RAM 2GB each to upgrade to 4GB (or one 2GB RAM module to upgrade to 3GB). Hence, it is recommended that you get 2GB replacement module for each 1GB module you have on you system from local laptop repair/ service center, which would be cost effective as existing 1GB RAM Modules would be useless for you upon upgrade.

Let me know if any further clarification/ assistance is required.

Good Luck!
Appreciate generously, if the solution could have been of any help!

Can I upgrade memory to only one gb of memory or install 2 512 mb on a toshiba satellite m35x series

http://www.shopping.com/xPF-Toshiba-Toshiba-Satellite-Notebook-PC-M35X-S114

Looking at the specs, the max is 2gb for your Toshiba. According to this website, its only a 256mb ddr sdram. So my guess is you only have 1 slot for the ram. I'd go with a 2gb ram if you can afford it, 1gb just don't cut it in todays technology.

I believe its the PC2700 model, so find a 1gb or 2gb PC2700 @ 333mhz and you should be set.

Compaq Presario Notebook V3000T I replaced the 2-256mb memory cards with 2-1g memory cards. System boots up but only reads 1024mb?

Thanks to Microsoft Knowledge Base for help with my answer:

First, find out what the maximum amount of memory is. This is generally listed by most of the manufacturers. This will let you know what upgrade potential the system has. Next, determine how the memory configuration is when you buy the system. For example, a laptop that has 2GB of memory can be configured as either a single 2GB module or two 1GB modules. The single memory module allows for better upgrade potential because by adding another module you are gaining more memory without sacrificing any current memory. Upgrading the two module situation with a 2GB upgrade would result in the loss of one 1GB module and a memory total of 3GB.

Upgrade memory for Compaq Presario R3000 PC Notebook

What OS are you running? 768 should be enough to run XP and keep you from getting that error message. On laptops their are normally just 2 slots for ram, so you would need to replace the 256 with the 512, which would bring you up to a gig of ram. Do you know if your computer has any spyware/adware on it? Sometimes malware can take up all your memory and generate just such an error. Do you know how many processes are running when you first login? Thank you.

Memory problem

you may have purchased a memory stick that requires more speed than your memory block can give. the speed for this lap top should be around 455-500 MHz on the memory block. if the memory stick requires more than that, its not going to work.

Reg ram upgradation

Each memory slot on the C555NR can support a maximum of 1GB of RAM. There are actually 2 slots, but only one is easily accessible to you. By upgrading both the primary and secondary DIMMs, you could achieve a total of 2GB of memory but you would have to remove the 512mb chip that is already installed and replace it with 1GB (+1GB in the expansion slot as well.)

If you don't plan on taking the computer to a professional to be serviced, you will probably only want to upgrade the memory in the secondary slot located under the memory cover on the underside of the computer. It can handle a 1GB SODIMM.

FYI the memory is:
200 Pin DDR2-533 PC2-4200 SODIMM

Good luck!
