Thanks, but there is no image in either the view finder or on the screen at the same time. I did mess with the display button with no luck. I can still see the function icons on the screen and in the view finder, but no subject, just black.

Think you may have accidentally hit the DISP button on the back of your camera. This manually turns the screen off and on to save batteries. Try pressing it once more to see if it corrects the problem.

OK, sorry about that, but that had to be tried first. Have you tried taking a picture with the camera and then downloading it to your computer? If so, are the pictures taken by the camera also black?

The reason I'm asking is that a stuck shutter is another common failure mode for digital cameras. The symptoms of a stuck or "sticky" shutter are very similar to CCD image sensor failure. The camera may take black pictures (for shutter stuck closed), or the pictures may be very bright and overexposed, especially when taken outdoors (for shutter stuck open).

To confirm a stuck shutter, put the camera in any mode other than "Auto", and turn the flash OFF (you don't want to blind yourself for the next step). Next look down the lens and take a picture. You should see a tiny flicker in the center of the lens as the shutter opens and closes. If no movement is seen, then you likely have a stuck shutter. If so, please see this link for further info and a simple fix that may help:

No image through lenses

1. During the daylight point the telescope towards an object (water tower, building ) something about 1/2 mile away.
2. Locate the object in your finder.
3. Use the 12.5mm lens (50x) and look through the telescope. Do not use the erect prism
4. Align the finder to what you see in the scope.
5. You can use the 4mm to fine adjust the finder.
6. On a good, clear night.Leave the scope out to reach thermal equilibrium ( about a hour) Point the finder towards the moon
7. Use the 12.5mm and then focus on the moon.

Note: This is NOT a quality scope. Avoid any scope with .965 eyepieces and silly magnifications! Max power on this scope on a PERFECT night is 200x and Huygens (H12.5) eyepieces give very narrow and poor viewing. Do not use the 3x barlow or the erecting prism. the erecting prism is for terrestrial viewing only and the barlow, although it increases the eyepiece by 3x, will also narrow the view.
Good Luck!

The problem i m having with my camcorder is when i want to record film screen goes blank but i can watch my previous recorded videos

Look in the view finder when recording instead of the screen. if you see the image there then the unit is probably set to look through there. Many of the new units dont' have a full view finder to lens item they actually have a small lcd screen inside the view finder. Check your options for recording.

Also if the view finder is tilted you need to close that before usign the lcd.

The image will not appear simultaneously on the LCD

monitor and the viewfinder. It will appear in the

viewfinder when the LCD monitor is in the lock position,

and it will appear on the LCD monitor when fully
extended.

My canon eos 100D wont's show the image on the screen. it will take the picture when looking through the view finder, but i would like it to appear on the screen. pleae help

Unlike compact point and shoot cameras, Canon's range of EOS D-SLRs don't have the LCDs stay on all the time. The design of the SLR camera involves a mirror in front of the sensor. The mirror in its normal position inhibits the image to be captured by the image sensor. When you shoot, the mirror flips up for a split second and back to its rest position.

To use "Live View" (composing shots with the LCD), there is an option in the Menu to enable it. Once enabled, press the centre "Select" button behind the camera to activate the LCD. However, the camera can't Auto Focus for you in Live View mode so manual focusing input is required of the photographer.

Please take a look at the symptoms listed here, and see if it's what you're experiencing.

Sony had a certain issue with the CCD chip on this camera. If it's this issue, they'll fix it free plus $20 until March 2010.

Mismatch between viewfinder and photograph

Is your camera an SLR, if so then your mirror might be at the wrong angle, if that is the case then you need to have a specialist tilt the mirror, if your camera is not a SLR then this is a common problem when taking pictures from a short distance away from your subject, as the view finder is above the lense so what appears centered in the view inder will be much higher up in the lense, there are two ways to fix this, one is to use the LCD, or most cameras have correction marks in the view finder, and these show where the actual edges of what the lense sees are, use the correction marks.

The monitor is always black

the view finder is either burnt out or there is break in the camera somwhere causeing it not to display on the screen.

other then that refer to your owners manual to see if there is any battery saving features that turn off the screen that need a certain few buttons pushed to re-activate the view finder

Use LCD instead of view finder in Nikon D40

Can't be done. Digital SLR cameras only view through the eyepiece, unless they have a "live view" function, which the D40 does not. The LCD is therefore for viewing an image after it is shot, and setting your menu options.
