In most cases sonys boot into BIOS by one of three keys, the first being the delete key, the second is the F2 key, third is the escape key.

My laptop(sony vaio pcg-k14)screen turns black when i try to boot with a cd........please help me???

Hi niroulanabin ,

For your laptop to detect a cd the following conditions should be met ...

  1. Make sure that the CD is a boot able CD , for e.g. an original windows xp cd.
  2. Make sure that the first boot drive is set to cd from the bios settings.
  3. Make sure that you press a key , when it says press a key to boot from cd , if you don't either the screen will go black or your os wil load as it is in the current state from your hard disk.
Hope this helps ...:)

Is the Drive reading any CD/Dvd during windows.

Please check the BIOS priority, if the HDD is set for first boot.

Let me know if you need further assistance. Also clarify the problem in detail.

Wont boot up

Could be bad memory, try and get into the bios and turn off the quick boot feature, this will run more complete tests. Also try booting using KNoppix or Ubuntu, make sure u set to boot from a CD in the BIOS. If Ubuntu or knoppix boot's you'll know it's the Hard disk, if they don't, it may be the RAM,

Changing Sony Vaio BIOS

you should be able to exit and save changes, which my guess is you are exiting without saving the changes. theres is a way around this, by pressing either F8, F9, F10, or F12 to access the boot menu, and then you can boot from cd to install your linux operating system
